Also, you deserve peace from your horrible parents too. Don't sacrifice that so your kids will have grandparents. And it's okay to just say "Hey grandma is really unkind and won't say she's sorry when she hurts people and we don't tolerate that in this family."

I know that sounds unkind but she was mean and horrible and I would be stressed out and anxious for days and days after having to pretend to like her (which was never enough). No grandparents is far superior to horrible ones.

Also tip to parents who have awful parents you don't want to speak to but feel you have to so your kids have grandparents. Trust me, your kiddos are better off not knowing terrible people. One of my grandmothers was a wretched person who made my life worse by being in it. I wish I never knew her.

My application has been pending since the interim measures this spring. Crossing my fingers it will finally get unstuck from paperwork purgatory now that the legislation is finalized.
