We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

They want to strip due process and deny people their day in court. Absolutely not.

As it turns out solving the first order problem is usually pretty efficacious and straightforward
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

They lied about it. All of it. A thug cop shot an unarmed woman five times without justification, boasted about it to his colleagues, and then this administration tried cover it all up by arresting her and charging her with felonies.
Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.
New: the govt has moved to dismiss its assault case against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, two people accused of "box[ing] in" a Border Patrol vehicle in Chicago on Oct. 4.

One agent shot Martinez, with evidence presented to the court that he later bragged about in text messages.

Exactly. If the precedent gets set the regime will use it against any regulatory frameworks they deem a threat. Facial recognition? Vaccines availability? Vehicle emissions?

Many community orgs & tech policy advocacy folx are already pushing state & local legislatures on this, but we need even more
I don’t like the idea of them trying to set them up as too big to fail and “treasonous” to try and regulate just as they increase surveillance , for anti ICE , and the use cases really now look like .. porn, racism, pollution , and statecraft
I am frankly really concerned about states possibly capitulating in advance with this "No regulating 'AI'" executive order— either because they agree, or our of fear— & thus self-fulfilling a precedent rather than making the trump regime enforce it and then defend it, at every step along the process
