I had NO idea about Seanan’s great expression until after, I was too busy focusing on looking ominous, and I think I may have hit her in the head by accident with either the Atargatis or the Melusine

Thank you! (“So many monsters are.”lol) First draft or no, even then I liked how it was coming out

Thank you so much! At the time, the dress looked like this (I wanted it to mimic waves/water), but I’ve since ripped out the sea-foam to try and improve it and hand-sewn in like half of the bajillion beads

I mean, back atcha, but you gotta admit these would also be easier to draw lol

I’m not saying the outfits made of three belts a scarf and a bag of tin cans or whatever aren’t cooler, just that they’re more of a pain in the ass

you are so kind!! It’s one of my all-time faves too. I was lucky enough to get to wear the base of the dress to meet Seanan at Awesomecon earlier this year, but this is veeery first draft energy and tragically beadless
Author Seanan McGuire clasps her hands together as a woman in a long gown of different blues with turquoise hair and a mask of horrible teeth looms over her with two doomed cruise ships dangling from her wrist

that's the noise i'm making every time i stab myself with beading needles, but at least any blood on the dress works thematically

I am FINALLY doing the beading/detailing for the murder mermaid gown based on @seananmcguire.bsky.social's Into the Drowning Deep, and while the good news is I'm obsessed with how it is coming out, the bad news is that it will require me hand-sewing every single bead in the known universe by Nov 5

oh my god I’m so emotional I loved that article and this one

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.
"
Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵
Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

People who think the idea of "give me ideas" is something genuinely creative people want have literally never experienced the absolute EUPHORIA of a brainstorming breakthrough, either solo or with a human collaborator. They don't understand what is happening when artists create, on a basic level.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

TRULY

although i remember her being on pretty early, the stadium was decidedly unfull at that point, I wonder if that stung and she retreated to the idea that swifties were all unsophisticated children? I remember being bummed for her because I loved some of her songs back then!

I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".
mattcameron.bsky.social
hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.
