There are so many good hobbies based on stuff that spins. Pottery. Record collecting. Spiral art. Mechanized Sewing. Wood turning. Watch repair. Automotive interests. Coffee grinding. The list goes on.
the thing I've never understood about taking the Bible literally is the very very first thing in the - the creation story in Genesis 1 - is told once, then IMMEDIATELY retold in Genesis 2 but in a different order!!! How can you interpret that any way OTHER than "yo this shit is just stories"

I am all for more mass transit and less cars but pedestrian fatalities went from about 4k/yr to 6k/yr over the last 15 years. Walking outside in America has gotten way more dangerous.
Also, I do think there's a general sense of everything kind of sucking, and being with your kids is nice.

This is obviously a, ah, provocative take on the subject, but it indeed an enormous societal problem that children have stopped walking or biking to school. There are plenty of individually rational reasons parents might drive their kids to school, but, in a wider context, no good reasons.

I knew a kid in high school who's mom paid extra to have the stereo removed from her car cuz she didn't want to "risk a distraction" while driving. this reminds me of her. one time her son and a bunch of friends spent a day driving his car (did have a radio) over hills real fast to get it airborne.

my dad worked two jobs growing up but he was off at the time i went to school in 1st Grade so he'd drive me a lot and our conversations during those trips are my fondest memory of our time together growing up
