>>Bogard emphasized that the “Jews for a Shared Future” letter is not an endorsement of any candidate. “This is not a Mamdani endorsement letter,” he said. “Anyone trying to make it that is reading it wrong.”<<
“Ultimately," said Rabbi Bogard, "we have to make a choice. Our Jewish institutions have to commit to being a tent that’s big enough to include the widest spectrum of Jewish voices and small enough to keep out the bullies.”

Over 1300!!! (Once I go update the website🙃)
"We recognize that candidate Zohran Mamdani's support for Palestinian self-determination stems not from hate, but from his deep moral convictions."

New letter, with close to 1,000 signatures and counting, including 50 clergy from New York, with a few hundred rabbis so far:

Glad to see my rabbi signed onto the OTHER letter, the one defending Mamdani and insisting that "In a climate of rising division, we must stay focused on what truly keeps us safe: working across differences to protect the rights and improve the lives of EVERYONE."

My friend, and someone who has stepped up in amazing ways to create safer communities across faiths, and especially for trans kids: “Jewish safety cannot be built on Muslim vulnerability.”

Amen.

And our letter wasn't organized by a shady right-wing org gaslighting org that needs to call itself "The Jewish Majority" 👀

And Jewish institutions are hardly democratic. They’re all corporations, run by boards of people, and their first directive is amassing wealth. For-profit companies call it “value”, nonprofits call it “endowment”. But the purpose is the same. Control.
If you want to understand why Jewish institutional leadership is so out of touch with actual American Jews, you need to understand the funding dynamic of basically every legacy Jewish institution. 1/

If you want Jewish institutions to represent actual Jews, unfortunately, it means joining and loudly demanding that we represent your values. Walking away leaves all of our institutions in the hands of unrepresentative right-wingers. 5/

But see
7 of those 16 individual donors are Jewish (best I can discern). Jews are 2% of the American population. I’m all for the small number of Jews with great wealth using that money to make a positive difference in the world. This is graft, pay to play, the worst of the court jew tradition.
