Lawyer. Not your lawyer. Mother. Not your mother. By day (and frankly nights and weekends), a civil rights lawyer for people who are incarcerated. Other times, just exhausted. Washington DC based.

I gave up cigarettes. I mostly quit alcohol. I don't stay up late anymore. I eat so many vegetables. Heroin looks great but seems quite destructive. I can't even wear absurd clothing, I'm too old and respectable. You'll pry my fucking coffee from my cold dead hands, bitch.

Tariffs have rapidly increased the price of coffee—a drink with almost no nutritional value and lots of functional substitutes. Yet coffee may also be the one thing Americans can’t live without, @elcush.bsky.social writes:
The Drink That Americans Won’t Give Up Without a Fight
Coffee has almost no nutritional value and lots of substitutes. It’s also, apparently, too important to lose.

She was a very good and prolific amateur artist. I think she'd also be very happy that everyone who came took at least one painting home.

Thank you. So very much

We had her celebration of life yesterday, and did a ceremony that reflected her, not our beliefs, as one should.

Traditionally, Jews don't have flowers at our funerals, though.

This is all to say, it's mighty weird having a funeral spray in my living room.
A big old funeral spray about two feet tall of yellow and white flowers

My mother in law was not Jewish. She had a complicated relationship with faith and God. She tried to become a nun after high school, eventually married and divorced, ended up with a Jewish lesbian daughter and had our children call her Bubbe.

Since this offer is a free benefit open to all federal employees not one that discriminates based on paygrade or type of duties, it's not considered a "gift" and can be accepted by any Federal employee under the ethics rules at 5 C.F.R. §2635.203(b)(4).

Government workers 👇🏾
Lunch is on the house:

Being in the heart of downtown DC, we love that so many of our Federal employees stop by during lunch for a Donburi at China Chilcano or a Fútbol Club at Jaleo. And just because the government is shut down doesn't mean you have to miss out on your favorite lunch spot- because this time, its on us!
Join us for lunch from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM at any of our participating restaurants and enjoy a free lunch item when you present your government ID-you heard that right! Dine in with us Monday through Friday and choose your favorite: a sandwich at Jaleo, a donburi at China Chilcano, a wrap or pita at Zaytinya, or a torta at Oyamel.
We've always believed in serving our community with open arms and good food-no shutdown can stop that.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

This is a bit weird, but I have to recommend Michelle if you are in the DMV and have to plan a funeral. Today was rough, but she was a blessing!

19 years ago, I made one of the best decisions of my life. I listened to a friend who said she knew this girl who was perfect for me, and agreed to go on a blind date.

It was also smart that we only committed to meet for a drink, but we still talked for 6 hrs.

What the hell is this?

A police officer is in no way capable of doing a medical exam
Eagan Officer Martin Jensen, a specially trained Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE), was called to assess whether Bimpong was under the influence of drugs. DRE training, provided by the Minnesota State Patrol to officers, emphasizes distinguishing drug impairment from medical emergencies such as strokes.

As a Jew, a Jewish mom, this is like brass knuckles to the gut.

He hid the 7 year old neighbor under his bed, keeping her safe from the armed goons of the state.

I use these Inspector General reports to explain to courts what is going on inside federal prisons. They cover things like poor food, bad medical care, staff sexual abuse.

I wonder why they got pulled down 🤔

Made myself a store with the t-shirt I wanted:

People are just too wild out here.
kashhill.bsky.social
This is absolutely wild. I’m on a cross country flight. We are being diverted midway through to Denver. The reason? Some dude is sitting in the exit row who didn’t pay the $155 fee and he refuses to move back to his seat.
