Shabbat shalom. Sending extra light your way.
It took roughly 11 hours to drive 460 miles to Fremont, Neb. - all of the delays coming in Missouri, including rugged interstates outside KC late afternoon. Many thanks to the emergency workers and the snow plow drivers.
We left St. Louis at 11 am. It took two hours to go 75 miles on WB70 to New Florence, where the nice folks at Love's were warning truckers about two-hour delays. The miles-long series of crashes starting around Williamsburg didn't even show on MoDot's map - they were stunned when I called it in.
Snowfall causes traffic headaches across St. Louis area; MoDOT surprised by storm's timing
Highways and streets were snarled with traffic Monday afternoon as snow fell across the area.

People's actions this World AIDS Day are not lessened because President Donald Trump says the government doesn’t commemorate the day any longer.

If anything, communities are further animated because of his administration’s failure to act.

Some thoughts on Dec. 1:

This time last year, I was on the South Lawn of the White House helping to lay out the AIDS Memorial Quilt.
This year the White House did nothing and the State Department instructed empoyees and grant recipients to “refrain from publicly promoting World Aids Day through any communication channels”
This morning I had the honor of helping lay out some panels of the #AIDS Memorial Quilt on the South Lawn of the White House. Seeing all these individual lives that were lost and knowing they are just a miniscule part of that great tapestry of loss is haunting.

This is stunningly good reporting by two bylined reporters and six credited researchers, and it's undermined throughout by links to an "Ask the Post AI" that delivers insipid answers to its own contrived prompts under the guise of "More context on this article"

Today is World AIDS Day.

“An awareness day is not a strategy” is the US government's rationale for not publicly acknowledging World AIDS Day for the first time since the inaugural WAD in 1988.

“We will not fucking wait until Monday. We will do it right now. Get him on the phone again. I want to talk to him. No mother’s son is going to lay on a cold, hard slab for the weekend when I can do something to stop it.”
“In the early days it was a lonely battle. Studio heads whom Taylor had made lots of money for hung up on her … Some of her friends and advisers told her to stay away from HIV and AIDS because it could end her career.” www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/20...

This World AIDS Day, we remember the hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers lost to HIV and AIDS, and those living with HIV today. We must remind ourselves and each other that the fight isn’t over until the epidemic is over for everyone.

My wife has been HIV+ for 34 years. She’s alive today b/c work of activists who destigmatized the virus, pushed medical science to adapt & find ways to treat it, & advocated for gov health programs that helped fund her care. The current U.S. regime may want to go back in time, but we won’t let them.

Multiple multicar accidents on WB70 as we head across MO to NE. If you don't absolutely have to go to Columbia from STL today, don't. Traffic is either stopped or stuttering for many miles.

The relatively small area we know today as Forest Park Southeast or The Grove has had a lot of church buildings. Some have been demolished. Many more turned into other uses. And a few are open. A 🧵below.

Filing away for next year ... (fingers 🤞 for the current batch of transplants)
Good evening. We might be losing the 🌱 Snapdragons over next week of temperature in teens and snow, ice, or both.

My trick to growing them is sowing the seeds late Fall, early Winter, tossing them on soil just as it starts to snow/rain. If you broadcast w/o precipitation, the birds will get them.
