Snap recipients also spend 25b at Walmart, so arguably Walmart is the largest recipient of SNAP and I’m sure a Walmart will be just fine taking a $25b revenue hit. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Every one of these I read is better than the last. Even if you Hate apples (who?) read this one for the description of the American supermarket experience.
Today's apple review jumps back into the land of grocery store apples with the OPAL. And tomorrow, I hear a certain cosmically-inclined apple gets its time in the sun.

Hope you're enjoying these apple reviews. They offer me a moment's meditation away from *gesticulates crudely in every direction*.
Apple Review #30: Opal
I don’t care much for grocery store apples, but I do love me a good grocery store. I recall in reading White Noise way back in the day, that Don DeLillo captured the sort of overwhelming sens…

Well true, my point probably applies much less outside the US. But for fuck same can we raise the bar? Find someone in the state of Maine who *didn’t* go through a Nazi tattoo phase. There’s 1.1 million adults in Maine
The level of willful misunderstanding this requires really hurts
The homeland security twitter account exists as further evidence that fascists have piss poor media literacy.

Ok no one I think is asking for perfection but "not being a Reddit edgelord tool of American imperialism with a Nazi tattoo" is an incredibly low bar he failed to clear
Also anyone who thinks you could get that by accident has never spoken to a non Nazi tattoo artist. They have an encyclopedic knowledge of hate symbols as part of their jobs.

"Only billionaires should pay higher taxes" discourse is downstream from a general belief that policy change need not involve tradeoffs, and that the very existence of tradeoffs is an automatic dealbreaker. My run-ins with people who hold this view are what will finally cause my psychotic break.
Seriously, let’s find someone among the 1.1 million Mainers who doesn’t have Nazi tattoos.
He’s like a horrible combination of Michael Scott and Matilda wormwood’s dad (sorry Danny devito)

Banging this drum again but I think this is another symptom of how the left sub-contracted out so much of thinking and morality to libertarianism
"leftwing" people who hate taxes should be punted deep underground, you are a waste of space without a single iota of exaggeration
Probably because they don’t actually do it, it’s the staffers who are often pretty great
Fucking excuse me what?
New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

No no, you pay someone else to review what you guessed and if they get it wrong *you still pay*

Defending Platner’s tattoo and dismissing his Reddit posts as insignificant is a kind of identity politics for privileged douchebags who believe that casual expressions of bigotry should not prevent a butch white man from getting the position of power, prestige, and authority that he is entitled to.
This is a great thread
I tell you what, though: I've come to have a very basic problem with the formulation "if liberal government doesn't do XYZ, fascism rises." This to me reflects one of the deepest & most enduring blind spots among the broad left coalition, namely ... they don't believe in the right.

Lemme explain.

The unspoken root assumption that underlies this theme is that fascism -- reactionary tribalism, a desire to draw in the circle of moral concern, to heighten in-group out-group distinctions -- is a kind of pathology, a break from the normal, something that's gone wrong w/ an otherwise decent person.

One feature you see in virtually every left analysis of politics, whether center-left or far-left, is that the right's authoritarianism, thirst for violence, and nihilism are framed as reactions to the left's failures. "They wanted better healthcare, they didn't get it, so they went fascist."

There is both hope and horror in this but I will take the hope.
