Things used in everyday life are the real archaeological treasures! These sewing #needles were made from animal bone some 15,000 years ago. Some designs simply don't need to be improved, because form and functions were perfectly matched from the start. Form follows function! 🧵1/2

I did this (can't remember when so don't know which stat Debi mentions applies to me) and it is so so good. Flexible to fit round your life. You do have to commit time - but when you want, within each week. And Debi is one of the most brilliant people I know.

Quite something to see the guy responsible for wrongful arrests of US citizens referring apparently unironically to the evils of ‘failed states’, and ‘terrors’ of ‘broken homelands.’

Meet Grumpy Side-eye McBarkface, fresh in from Berlin Christmas market (supposed to be a tree decoration but it seems a shame to hide him away in a box for 11 months of the year).

It's always a good day to remove all things Zuckerberg from your life.

Scam ads on Meta in UK likely worth more than all online news advertising
Meta likely made more than £600m from fraudulent UK advertising in 2024.

Going over old emails to/from planners to tie up minor loose ends.

Planners: We think our conditions are reasonable.

Me: Pal, guidance here, here, & here says this one is 'unreasonable', 'unacceptable', & ultra vires so it's unenforceable.

I'd forgotten just how insane that whole experience was.

Not exactly a compliment, but a strong contender has to be the one-star review from a reader who loved the first two books so much they were furious that I’d *checks notes* decided* (like GRRM) not to write the final book in the series.

*_not_ my decision because publishing doesn’t work like that…
A few people have credited my books with getting them back into reading after a slump, and that's a pretty high compliment in my opinion.
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

Almost done with novella, but the coffee's worn off. Need a different name for the journalist, his wife is going to become his husband, need to figure out who informed against him, and there's one other thing to finesse.

This is a fascinating & kind of terrifying piece, the way it rules out various reasons for collapse you might guess (famine, climate) to leave the impression these people just decided to slaughter each other
Pointed out by my friend @carloshasanax.bsky.social . There's something weird and unsettling about a fairly homogeneous culture spread out across Europe that then collapses into an orgy of genocide.

Is this where we discover the decision was based on a few Twitter(x) propaganda bot posts?
Home sec lawyer says he will look for source in "underlying documents" that led up to decision

Judges also asking about role of RAF Brize Norton incursion that happened hours before ban was announced. Government position is that it wasn't part of the proscription decision but home sec knew about it

Trying to work on the cursed novella but can't concentrate. Sod this. Going to have a COFFEE.

(Gave up drinking it in 2014. Had maybe five in the eleven years since then, so this will probably be my sixth?)

Christ almighty. No one does media shitshows like the US. I remember when the UK got excited when that story about David Cameron and a pig dropped. It seems so tame in comparison.
