"AWAKE! for Morning in the Bowl of Night
Has flung the Stone that puts the Stars to Flight:
And Lo! the Hunter of the East has caught
The Sultan's Turret in a Noose of Light."
Morning sunlight is finding its way round (and through) a yellow curtain which is still closed over an east-facing window. In the foreground is a floofy black cat, leaning forwards and slightly sideways from the right of the frame to peer intently into the camera with wide eyes, pupils dilated.

If it isn’t an exercise in scrutinising the reliability of every source, our society is doomed.

Missed this earlier this week: Publishing is attempting to weather a perfect storm.

"What is at stake if we cannot continue?"

Simultaneously very happy and crestfallen to be part of this Open Letter (written to the industry, as well as readers, writers, and - well - everyone who cares).

That sounds on a par with round here. We’ve failed spectacularly to downsize twice now. Third time’s the charm…

The kitchen was about 25’ square, I think, so not really enough. It continues to disappoint…

Is that a typical Edinburgh price?

Would the ceiling be high enough for fencing practice if you got rid of all the dangly light fittings?

All that space and no bookshelves.

Take only photographs.
Leave only footprints.
SCRIBBLE IN YOUR BOOKS.

Notes written to his future self. Notes on everything that mattered, everything he wanted to hang onto in defiance of his diagnosis.

Notes that chronicle the ebbing of his tide. Unwitting testimony.

A final, impossible conversation, waiting patiently for me to open the pages. >

Everybody's bollocking on about books: folding corners of pages, marking passages, scribbling notes. This is a perfectly reasonable thing to do with books you own.

When my dad got his dementia diagnosis, he went through all his climbing books and made lots of notes in them. >

Take a few minutes to appreciate Drew Struzan creating the original artwork for THE PHANTOM MENACE. Truly a master at work.

Such heroism! Fingers crossed that Mimi enjoys being an indoor, only cat.

My two rescue cats were to be kept indoors-only, and I’m a convert. Although cats will find a way - Jonesy managed to break her tail falling from the top shelf of a wardrobe.

Oh, no. Sorry to hear that. Poor Moomoo, and poor you.

With the door shut we’ll never know. Unless the plumbing’s especially noisy.

Ogodz, the uncertainty…

Wouldn’t it be good if this particular problem could be self-levelling…

That many pages of chats between a dozen of them over 7 or so months? Will they have time to take over anything?

Chatting about how wild it must feel to set fire to a big pile of _someone else’s money_ and realisation dawned.

That must be how Sam Altman feels EVERY SINGLE DAY.
