Bc a lot of those (mainly white) folks don't hate the machine. They hate it being pointed at them. They want the police. They want ICE. But not this version of it. It's not abolish they fear. It's the idea behind it. Losing their way to control and punish the "others".
Question for the crowd:

Why do you think moderates, liberals, and other folks are scared or have an aversion to the word “abolish”?

Man…I’m just really freakin happy for Sam Darnold. We were in Arizona for his loss to the Rams last year—to go from that to this, and from castoff to the Super Bowl.

What an incredible journey. What a game. What a moment for him.

Because worrywarts refuse to let them grow accustomed to hearing, seeing, and using it. We should use it MORE, not less.

You do not move the Overton window leftward by accommodating moderates. It has moved steadily rightward for at least the last 40 damned years. The "center" is now far right.

i think a lot of well meaning people underestimate how many people actually like, trust, and want to keep funding a militarized police force. the "aversion" to the word "abolish" is that people want to keep cops around.

people do understand that the nuremberg trials were largely show trials to distract from the fact that the US was poaching any high profile nazis that were beneficial to their cause & that denazification in the west sectors didn't really take off

Do not forget Silverio Villegas González and Keith Porter when you talk about the people murdered in the streets by federal agents under this regime. They and their loved ones deserve the same attention, righteous anger, and solidarity that Good and Pretti are receiving.

This is also connected to that whole thing where all their fantasies of protecting their own *family* centers on enacting violence and not, like, vaccinating their kids and making sure they're prepared for a power outage etc.

Even people they know, they only think of in terms of violence.
rightwingers see people caring about others in their community and instead of finding that inspiring they think it’s some sort of grand conspiracy because they don’t understand what it means to care for others you don’t personally know

Maybe in 2016 you could say this but not today, not at all.

If they voted for Trump a THIRD TIME they knew what they wanted.
Seriously, folks, people did NOT vote for murder on the streets. A majority of those who voted went for Trump, and to win power, those against Trump will have to win many of them over, not reject them all as people who want fascism.

Don't you dare lecture us about having eyes wide open, you old bat. Not when we're the ones getting pepper-sprayed in them!

ICE has a slush fund?--Sounds like Congress should do something about that.

Do.

Your damn.

Jobs.

It's why we're paying for your healthcare. Want us to come for that next?
Americans must be eyes wide open that blocking the DHS funding bill will not shut down ICE.

ICE is now sitting on a massive slush fund it can tap, whether or not we pass a funding bill.
Federal agents cannot murder people in broad daylight and face zero consequences.

I will NOT support the DHS bill as it stands.

The DHS bill needs to be split off from the larger funding package before the Senate—Republicans must work with us to do that.

I’ll keep fighting to rein in DHS and ICE.

The admin gains nothing but public criticism by admitting they just recycled these guys back into the system like a bunch of catholic priests. The only logic to making this known is to signal other officers that they won’t be turned over to legitimate authorities for gunning down Americans.

This is my friend. Solid dude who was arrested for defending a woman the cops were assaulting. Not only did they disappear him, but even after he was finally released, they harassed him for years after. A straight line from there to Alex Pretti.
FROM 2020:

Jeremey “Mohawk” Johnson participated in the “Defund CPD & Abolish ICE” protest. That evening, he disappeared, last seen being taken by police.

“It feels like they’re trying to make an example out of me because they want to scare other protesters.”
