The future is mutual aid. ✨ 💪

Trying to build community at the intersections of art and justice movements, sometimes organizing mutual aid fundraisers and distributing zines. 🕎 for a free 🇵🇸.

One of my favorite things about Bluesky (or at least my little corner of it) is that people are always sharing resources for taking action.

So here's a pinned thread collecting those resources, some made by me and some made by others.

Thread from last year of some of my favorite artists to buy holiday gifts from. A few shops have since closed, but most are still open:
This is a great thread of beautiful things made by artists to support this holiday season instead of big corporations.

I'll add a few of my favorites:
okay here it is: a big thread of small businesses & artists who sell beautiful things. if I can vouch personally for quality (from previous orders) I will include that. I'll try to include shop location, too. if you want to buy presents that are original AND non-corporate, here you go!

On the other hand, poor people deserve nice things, and if Black Friday sales are the only way they can get them, so be it.

On one hand, hyper-consumerism is a load-bearing pillar of American capitalism, and disrupting it (through targeted boycotts, free stuff swaps, supporting indie artists instead of big corporations, etc) is a good thing.

This! This is why I don't support gun control laws even though I fucking hate American gun culture and the horrific amount of suffering and death it causes.

I don't want large numbers of people to have guns, but I also don't want cops to take them and end up with even more guns.
Please remember that in the US, every time you advocate for something to be made illegal, you are supporting more power being given to the carceral state.

And those new laws might be sometimes deployed against the privileged, but they will ALWAYS be weaponized against the vulnerable.

This! To be clear, I absolutely believe we can, and should, create a society that meets everyone's basic needs.

I just don't think that's likely to happen through somehow convincing capitalist nation-states to institute UBI policies.
We're never going to get UBI because capitalism relies on the threat of homeless and starvation to extract labour from us.

Christianity, which started as an Indigenous Palestinian religion, has never been a monolith.

Christian supremacist institutions have committed atrocities for millennia, and are closely connected to capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism.

One of my pet peeves is when people conflate Christian supremacy, the ideology, with Christianity, the religion.

Christian supremacists want you to believe they're the same thing, but they're not.

The right is full of grown-ass adults who are afraid of vaccines, kid's books, and anyone Twitter or OAN tells them to fear, including the entirety of NYC, and NYC is full of people who cheerfully chase federal agents out of the state and then do stunts on Citibikes; you tell ME who's going to win.
The scene now at Lafayette and Howard, diagonal to the ICE garage which activists remain camped out in front of on both sides of the building.

empires do this literally all the time also. the israelis funded and trained a bunch of fascistic Lebanese Christians to do horrific things to Shi'a and Sunni and other Christians and then the Israelis bolted and left them to deal with the pieces. You get used and then you want to hit back.

Story about as old as time, the US trained compradors to do horrific things on their behalf to their national brothers and sisters (who they in many cases already had grudges towards) and then spat on these compradors and they feel betrayed. Turns out they keep those skills to do horrific things.

Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.
