A fun byproduct of unitary executive theory—if the president controls everyone under him, he can demand they transfer hundreds of millions in tax dollars into his bank account
Breaking News: President Trump wants $230 million from the Justice Department for investigating him, people familiar with the matter say. Any settlement might ultimately be approved by senior department officials who defended him or those in his orbit. nyti.ms/4hmIi5X
I can’t stop thinking about all the hoopla over removing confederate statues and the phony appeals to “heritage.” But this is done without discussion. It was always about displays of dominance.

I’m sure that the people who were outraged about the removal of confederate statues will be up in arms any minute now…
We all know this was about trying to get blackmail material on Vought, right?
So, per reporting from Zeteo’s Asawin Suebsaeng, in today’s new ‘First Draft’ newsletter, Trump tried to get a newly-divorced Russ Vought, Project 2025 architect & now budget chief, laid at Mar-a-Lago.

The details are, ahem, as crude as you’d expect from Trump.

I'm just a lowly art historian, but in moments like these I always think back to one early sign of Trump's wanton, pointless destructiveness: his demolition of the priceless & irreplaceable Art Deco relief sculptures on facade of the Bonwit Teller building, which he tore down to build Trump Tower

Keynesianism is like Ozempic in that it's something that works but makes people mad because they want moral hazard to be involved
There’s a certain kind of person who thinks Keynesian stimulus is “putting off” a necessary correction and I’m always amazed how many of them there are.

The reason even this admin of brain geniuses hasn't pulled the insurrection act lever is they know it's their last card, and if they lose that fight, it gets really bad for them. Potentially it ends the ability of the administration to continue.
I'm gonna repost that if the Insurrection Act was such a get out of jail free card that let big boy Trump do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted and bing bong so simple and not something that's legally fraught and potentially destabilizing to the point of regime change, they would have done it.

Not all media is racing to move on and forget about the second-largest one-day protest in U.S. history

I hung out at my boisterous No Kings rally in Delco, Pa. and wrote about how the movement got under Trump's skin, the surest sign that it's winning

My column www.inquirer.com/opinion/no-k...
Then they fight you: How the ‘No Kings’ protests are winning America | Will Bunch
A massive turnout of 7 million and a panicked White House showed Saturday why the No Kings protests matter, a lot.

Adjacent to conservative arguments defending sexual assault: There are people who believe that if a woman consents, she can’t revoke that consent. Victims “deserve” anything that happens afterward.
Just a couple of weeks left. He skipped out at the start of September, and he did it again at the start of October.

🤞The start of November is just around the corner.🤞

I saw some folks thinking that voice acting in games was objectively good, always a positive. "What kind of game doesn't have voice acting in 2025?!" sorta thing

I say that there are positive reasons why one would choose NOT to have VO.

How many design justifications we can come up with?

Two tons of bronze ingots, from melting down Charlottesville’s statue of Robert E. Lee, are now on display in the LA Museum of Modern Art “Monuments” exhibit. The @jsaahccville.bsky.social Swords Into Plowshares project will select an artist to use the bronze to create public art for Charlottesville

I never again want to hear House Republicans disparage people they claim are too lazy to work
It's official: Speaker Johnson just cancelled all votes in the House next week.

The next scheduled voting day is 10/27; the last time the House was in session was 9/19.

its funny looking back on all the DC political reporters who attributed Biden's overwhelmingly-negative press coverage in the second half of his term as being punishment for Karine Jean-Pierre's supposed rudeness or incompetence
So the president of the United States plans to meet with Putin in Hungary, and when a reporter asked where that plan came from, this was the reply of the United States government www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...
