Exactly.

This is what the U.S. government is now, apparently.

So interesting.

Kind of depends, right? Imagine someone French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, etc etc wanting to eat like that.

My alma mater could look better.

(6) At the end I felt so profoundly sad about where we are now, what the current regime has accomplished. How fundamentally is it broken? How much of what has been our best is now past? Only time and the dedication of the people (dare I say patriots?) will tell. No Kings. Or dictators.(5/5)

(4) A successful revolution in terms of winning the peace treaty is far from the same thing as the terms of settling down to being a governed nation. Pretty amazing it worked as well as it did. And (5) It reinforced for me the room they created for generation to attempt a MORE perfect Union. (4/5)

(3) Fascinated by the emphasis on the mission of American empire above & beyond the mission of independence. Related to: (4) The doc brought home how fundamental the position and actions of African descendants and Native Americans were in so many aspects of the Revolution and its finale. (3/5)

(2) With such large diffs across colonies (this doc barely touched on what those were) it is amazing how they began to coordinate, give mutual aid, eventually knit together as a country. But of course that was never complete; ID as part of a nation rather than federation was/is very uneven. (2/5)

Finished "The American Revolution." Have read lots before, but what struck me for the first time: (1) I never understood what a civil war this was. I knew there were "Patriots" and "Loyalists"/"Tories", but this was a major dispute/war among both settler populations and native populations. (1/5)

“Mr. Trump, I’m from Donbas — why should I give my home and my region to Russia? Donbas is Ukraine.”

A Ukrainian soldier from Donetsk wrote this on a ruined wall. This isn’t politics; it’s a life tied to a street, a graveyard, a school.👇

In the modern history of the USA, no President has ever cancelled the GDP and jobs report.

Like ever.

The data delays are about the true state of the economy, at a time when Trump continues to highlight strong growth while concerns over affordability and unemployment persist.

No respect for Northwestern.

Extortion.

He’s terrible enough as it is. If we were really at war it would be terrifying to have him where he is. Poor guy thinks he has to prove our « manliness » which he defines in appalling terms.

She was here first.

Nice work

Trump's denigration of women is part of the authoritarian playbook.

Andrea Pitzer looks at why it has worked and how to stop it.

Cranberry tart with rum & orange liqueur cream and chocolate. Served after a Cantonese marinated duck roasted with Brussels sprouts, chestnuts, dried cherries and clementine slices.

The US is also what rampant populist authoritarianism looks like

If you fear state retribution for criticising the state, you are not in a free democracy.

George Washington. Or Benedict Arnold. Or Abigail Adams. Probably not Gen. Burgoyne.

Interesting to spend Thanksgiving evening watching the American Revolution.

And she shouldn’t have been there.
