Working artists/designers didn't "prepare for" the airbrush or digital typesetting or Quark or whatever. You evaluate whether it's a thing and learn it, or not. "Do it ASAP so my boss can make a buck even though it doesn't work yet" has always been fraught

I'm going to continue to push back on the "you have to ~believe in~ amd ~prepare for~ AI" stuff. Working slobs like myself didn't have to "prepare for" computers or internet, either it becomes a thing in your industry or it doesn't.

Another fun wrinkle from that period (that might still exist): I was good at math and loved it and then my geometry teacher told me that I'd probably struggle because female brains were bad at spatial thinking. I kept loving math & being good at it but assumed that would end so I ended it first.

I genuinely feel a kind of low-key anger at the status quo and it's like "you should care about other people" and more "why is it that even when it directly benefits people, a lot of people don't care about other people (in some capacity) until they are affected by those benefits."
