Oleen is an oarfish-inspired mermaid of mysterious origins. Her dying grandmother left her egg with a very surprised human, and only a select group of humans know about her.

Kip and Ayel are from a short story, Ayel is a siren with magic thrall and Kip is low on self-preservation. (forgot alt text)

They are holding hands, looking at each other with their noses almost touching.]

Yay it’s my book’s birthday; don’t yell about pubes in public
An angry character shouts in the distance, “I hope they step on a million stray legos. I hope they get an ingrown pube!” A second character in the background responds, “Jelly you gotta not yell about pubes in public. Also, mind the ice.” A nervous young person with freckles and short hair hides behind an evergreen bush in the foreground.

Step #1 - Decide that you like a book.

Step #2 - Loudly talk to other people about how much you like the book and why you think other people should read it.

Step #3 - Make friends with the people who agree with you. Read their books too.

Step #4 - Rinse and repeat.

My #1 tip for generating word of mouth is to create word of mouth for other people first.

Teach yourself how to market by marketing your friends' books first!

You'll gain essential practice, generate community goodwill, make author friends to help with the writing process, and it pays dividends.

i'm glad i never got shy and deleted my old deviantart, as painful as looking at it sometimes is. these two are a real snapshot of the fashion i thought was cool in middle school. also, early stabs at (1) non-anthro characters and (2) drawing without lineart, which i'm still not very good at, lol.
[image: a digital drawing of a white girl holding a soda can. she has black dip-dye at the end of her long red ponytail, big anime eyes, safety pin earrings, a corset top with sheer midriff panel, a dark pink wallet chain, smiley and sad face pins on a hoodie tied around her waist, and a cartoony skull necklace. her expression is inscrutable, but she's looking toward the viewer and blushing.] [image: a digital drawing of a fairy with brown skin and hair, yellow eyes, and red wings. i cannot think of the words to describe her dress but it's red, black, and white, with some vaguely historical references in the shape of the bodice and skirt, but only mid-thigh long. matching heels with a peep toe, and black fingerless gloves. there's an entirely superfluous fancy stool in one corner and a very lazily rendered red curtain in the background.]
