Reminder: "ai" is merely the most successful bubble that big tech has ridden to high stock prices. They tried it with NFTs and with blockchain before them. This bubble is just a lot bigger.

And they will try it against unless something stops them: legislation, labour action, *something*.

Basic old time (!?) Machine Learning is still more useful but because it’s too geeky it’s still not gotten the traction it should. You don’t need computers talking like people (poorly), you need them dealing with mathematical analysis on a scale people cannot handle unaided.

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

Nota bene: students who rely on "ai" to get through university are severely hampered at interviews and will be unable to do all but the most menial work. If they can't tell good writing/code from bad, they're useless for quality control. "AI" is producing a lost generation of college students.
I wish journalists would stop making misleading claims like: "As the technology improves, it's harder to distinguish from human work, and it's shaking academia to its core with some very big questions" - the similarity is superficial, the gulf from human work massive. www.pbs.org/newshour/sho...

New Yorkers who heard about the raid showed up at the garage where the feds had gathered, and as federal agents tried to leave, the NYPD cleared the way for them.

I'm watching #TrainToBusan to prep for a film class next week, and I'm reminded of the rank, disgusting anti-Palestinian racism of #WorldWarZ. It was one of the very few elements of the book that made it straight into the movie, untouched. I think we know what Max Brooks' politics are, sadly.

Creating a military conflict with Venezuela gives this administration a legal "hook" to invoke the Alien Enemies Act. In other words, the foreign war is being manufactured in order to facilitate court deference for its domestic mass deportation policy. It's a Stephen Miller Special.
