A short story worth reading...
Let's talk about generative AI, contaminated information, and rhubarb.

Once upon a time, Europe was at war.

Food was scarce, and the government of the quote-unquote United Kingdom looked for alternatives. 1/

Back again at personal #GameDev for #GetKeyOpenDoor, my short #PixelArt platformer. This is the introductory level for Gargoyles. It's probably too hard right now, but I'm going to fine tune difficulty when I have all the levels laid out.

Okay I think this is probably the final iteration looks-wise, at least for the basic procedural animations

I made simple shadows on top of my deferred shading - no filters, blur, and pretty visible peter panning, but it works! 😎

Shadow mapping is done using Defold Camera component to "see" the world from the perspective of the sun light ☀️

I have 2 weeks off work for the holidays – something basically every white collar and union worker used to get but as negotiating power eroded has become a rare extravagance

Honestly? I can see why... I've gone 4 days without a deadline and all I've done is cook, make art, and think about socialism

Do you want to make an editor built in Defold?
Example by d954mas on how to use Imgui to add a gizmo!

1. Create an invisible box with an outer shadow
2. Create an invisible box with an inner shadow
3. Place randomly...

I feel this whole thread so much, I could have written it myself.

Oh, and me and a friend built a SID emulator in uni, but I don't remember the tool right now.
I spent an hour this afternoon reading an AI prompt engineering subreddit out of morbid curiosity. It sure does feel like a lot of people trying to find meaning in randomness, instead of doing the clearly easier thing and writing an email themselves.

Good news: starting to feel a bit like going back to work on my personal gamedev projects.

A bit in a rough patch lately, and I prefer silence (and some boosts) over random rants and negativity. I hope ti be back posting something gamedev related soon.

Twists are a pretty interesting subject to me.

Overall, my stance would be that while twists by themselves are cool, at their core, they should be about reframing the story.

Something about the world, a character or the very narrative was concealed, but what exactly does this new knowledge mean?
Viewers/readers/players anticipating your plot twists in advance is GOOD ACTUALLY.

YOU DID A GOOD JOB WHY WOULD YOU RUIN IT. YOUR JOB ISN'T TO OUTSMART YOUR AUDIENCE. UNGUESSABLE PLOT TWISTS ARE BAD TWISTS.

sorry for the yelling but holy shit

making games is great because you can make a source file called "caves" and it's all algorithms for generating caves.
