It's weird because normal people don't complain when every single party-based RPG has at _least_ one, usually two or more, conventionally attractive female cast members. (looking at you here, Shadowheart!). But the instant Ghost of Yotei or whatever shows up, the chuds come out from behind the walls

It's so about homosocial status seeking and posturing. It has nothing to do with actual sexual attraction. It's a purely performative display intended for one's homosocial peers and it makes me sick.

I mean, I don't think anybody really complains about reasonable fan service, even! The major complaint I see is when _every_ female character is sexed up in very specific ways. That kind of monoculture communicates in a very clear fashion.
