Queer. Social justice Jedi. They/them.
I have been known to ask, "Why?" with malicious intent, but the targets nearly invariably deserve it.
We both know that neuroblands usually do not actually know precisely why they do something. We also know that they mostly mimic other people’s behaviour to get along.
Asking why implies that mimicking other’s behaviour isn’t a good enough reason and asking why exposes people’s lack of knowledge

the invasion of Afghanistan is among the most horrific recent chapters of the long history of elite impunity in the US. this coda is grim but fitting - the govt practically explicitly affirming that it should only be Afghans who live with the consequences amid fading public memory of the atrocity
It didn’t even take 6 hours.

this was bad before, but these are the most troubling and serious allegations you can make about a journalist. if they’re true, i genuinely can’t think of a worse scandal in the history of political journalism. devastating to our industry, to public trust as a whole, and to everyone in its orbit

Do not miss @attackerman.bsky.social's modest proposal today: Nationalize AI!
How To Expropriate An Artificial Intelligence Oligarchy
An industry whose bubble is set to burst is crucial to U.S. national security, you say?

If nothing else, be thankful for the smallpox vaccine. Also, modern period products. And modern dentistry. And anesthesia, and antibiotics, and no-fault divorce.
One thing I have no patience for is "there is nothing to be thankful for" doomerism. If Americans were finding things to be thankful for in 1863, two and a half years into a bloody Civil War, when Abraham Lincoln formalized the Thanksgiving holiday, then I can find things to be thankful for too.

People need food. Market won’t provide it. Government should. It’s literally the whole point.
Turns out Mamdani's controversial proposal for government-run supermarkets isn't so novel. Other cities also are toying with the idea to bring fresh, affordable food to communities that do not have easy access to it. Good WSJ read (gift link)

The goal is for the store to become profitable without any government subsidy within three years.

Turns out the guy in the apartment next to ours was a meth addict.

'was', because today we learned that he's been dead in there a day or two.

Turns out his kitchen vent and ours open into the same space.

What a horrible night to have a sense of smell.

If you’re too old and tired for this shit, retire.
Senate Democrats who voted to end the shutdown acknowledged that negotiations were going nowhere.

In the end, fatigue and frustration triumphed over anger and anxiety at President Trump.
Democrats fold on biggest government shutdown demand

Seattle and Portland area folks:

These two sweeties need a new foster home by December 12th. One boy, one girl, both fixed. They’ll come with food, toys, and litter (also a cat playpen if you want it).

Would really appreciate any shares to cast a wider net.

People in cities across the world are protesting against attempts to coerce Ukraine into capitulation.

How did we even end up here — seriously discussing that Ukraine should give away its own land which terrorist state russia tried hard but has failed to conquer for 11 years?

No.

Absolutely not.

Not even for one tiniest fraction of a second.

Rather, individuals and companies must be held to account for the crimes they commit using AI. If OpenAI's product, ChatGPT, was not fit for purpose and talked someone into committing suicide, that's obviously on OpenAI.
AI must be held to the same laws as individuals!

Every other guy online is a debate pervert who gets paid like $750k a year by the Liberty Flame Institute LLC, which nobody has ever heard of, to alternate between saying that the age of consent is too high and that puberty blockers "destroy fertility."

"It is against the TOS to be talked into suicide by our LLM" is possibly the most evil tech bro thing I've ever read
Additionally, OpenAI argues its not liable because Raine, by using ChatGPT for self-harm, broke its terms of service

If people want to understand why American politics went bananas in 2012, the reason is that the moderate black President took a modest but consequential step toward decoupling healthcare from employment and every billionaire immediately poured their entire portfolio into race-hate media

Lawyer-sky; is it illegal to refuse to answer questions from the FBI? I know it's illegal to lie to them and thus risky to answer virtually any question more complicated than, "is this your name?", but can one just say, "I don't want to answer that question."?

Just read a reddit post earlier that they had 600 wishlists on release but sold 70k copies in Korea.

Never give up #gamedevs! But also don't forget to research your target market, pricing, and marketing strategy.

Also don't forget to make a good game. ✌️

Finished Paradise Killer. Fun little who-dunnit. Kinda a point-and-click crossed with an open-world scavenger hunt, covered in a crunchy candy shell of _completely nutsbar backstory_. Fantastic core aesthetic and soundtrack. Some _very_ dodgy sound mixing choices (seriously, the phones, really?).
