🧵The dead can't tell their stories, so we must do it for them. No case below led to the birth of an infant surviving longer than 3 days (most didn't end in a live birth at all).
Savita Halappanavar, died at 31 from sepsis after being denied an abortion. Her case led to Ireland legalising abortion.
As a non-Yank, the only reason I ever learned gars exist was fishing in Animal Crossing! I still remember the indignation of being told by my primary school teacher "gar is not a real word" haha
In honor of Gar week.

just want to remind everyone again that zohran is the one cis candidate i am aware of that had his platform on trans rights written by trans people. i think that matters

Zohran at the rally for trans youth on february 8 ❣️ he was polling single digits.
A very helpful thing disability culture taught me is that anything worth doing is worth half-assing, cause sometimes that's all we can do. That mindset can rescue people from burnout. But the rest of the world doesn't want to hear it. They only want to tell us that a 9 out of 10 is still a fail.
Back when I was at uni, I was in full burn out but was really proud of myself for still hoovering, doing all the laundry, and completing my studies for that day. Then my parents visit me and freak the fuck out at the sight of unwashed dishes and crumbs on the table. A 9/10 is still a fail.
I remember being utterly devastated to get a 9/10 in a school spelling test way back when, thinking that it meant I was a failure. Obviously this was an overreaction and was viewed as such. But being less than perfect in the real world is still often a very serious problem
I was feeling quite pleased with myself this morning for remembering to take my purse, keys, phone, nutritious home made lunch, work pass, and planner with me, only to get halfway to work and realise I'd forgotten my work laptop (vital to every aspect of my job). A 9/10 is still a fail.
Perfectionism gets named as an AuDHD trait a lot, and I think part of this is because sometimes we (people in general) really do need to do things perfectly in order for them to work / in order to get any credit
The Iraq war was already multiple decades ago

The better I get at speaking English, the less grace I get when I make a "mistake" or can't explain myself as easily as I would in my native language.🧵
Yeah that's what I thought! The doc was extremely weird about it. Then tried to tell me that "autism" and "autism spectrum disorder" actually refer to different conditions(??!?!?)
I was asked recently if I'd ever had any "serious" medical problems and said no because none has ever put me in hospital. Then I told them I'm autistic and was scolded for not disclosing this "serious medical problem". How big a deal does it need to be to be worth disclosing (seriously asking)?

What the hell is "masculine breast cleavage"? These people have brain worms.

I'm an optimist on journalism's future, but efforts by Dems to confuse people about what's a trustworthy source of information and what isn't are an anchor around the neck of our industry.

TikTok has been a better source on the broad outlines of the Israel/Palestine conflict than legacy US media.
What Hillary is saying here is a conspiracy theory and not even a tame, silly one, but a whopper. A more balefully consequential and widespread one than e.g. Trump complaining that the media lied about his crowds being big.

Solidarity to those in @gameworkers.co.uk targeted by the worst union busting the UK has seen in years. Make no mistake, the management want to squash unionisation of the games industry so workers have less job security than even today. Stay strong peeps, and know you've a lot of support out here!

the uk’s problem is that we’ve had 40 years of neoliberal economics and it has absolutely failed and we currently have a chancellor who is a neoliberal ideologue.

she literally doesn’t comprehend that other economic systems are available. it doesn’t compute.

Every time you reduce disability benefits…

You harm the economy.
You put more pressure on the NHS and Social Care.
You put more people out of work.

You harm and kill the most vulnerable.

i don’t want a government that overrides peer-reviewed science bcos it doesn’t align with their christian beliefs.

i won’t ever vote labour again.

@darrenpjones.bsky.social & @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social can bang on about how they believe tactical voting will save them. it won’t.

I keep seeing supposedly progressive podcasts saying “the problem is that people feel like they just can’t talk about these issues” while these issues are frequently the *only* thing that people are talking about 😩
Am struggling with the idea that people like me somehow don't understand the legitimate concerns of people who attended the Tommy Robinson march. I literally had National Front fliers through my letterbox in my childhood in Greater London and I went to school and university with actual fascists.
I'm keeping my tits because I don't wanna lose nipple orgasms (but I'm on T so I guess I still am transitioning, just with D cups)

for reasons not worth getting into I've been talking to straight liberals about medical transitioning and these are not transphobes, they fully support people's rights to do what they want

but its shocking that everyone of them did not understand transitioning as a NEED rather than a choice.

Teen Vogue took young people seriously. It's impossible to overstate how important, how rare, and how profoundly needed that is.
They think we're rigid because Jenny cries when they ruin her perfect line of Hotwheels. If they tore the dolls out of Sally's doll house, she wouldn't like it either!
(and that their wishes are usually cursed bullshit)
