I spent time medicking otg yesterday in Broadview, and yes things were absolutely as chaotic and violent as this video depicts, especially stuck in the middle of it as ISP stampeded at protestors with batons raised. At one point, they opened their line just to drag someone away. Terrifying.

Troopers just violently attacked protesters, tackled several, several arrests, shoving activists and press with batons.

There is ongoing scam happening posing as a black trans safe house in Texas. The fake org is "Black Trans Texas Connection."

There is an IG page
@blacktransscam

that verifies its nonexistence by checking w local orgs in its supposed operating city of Houston. 👇

turns out the answer to “are they malicious or just stupid” — a question often asked about big media boss types — is “yes, but sliiiightly more the former”

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.

Quick update on what we just saw here—*before curfew*, ISP troopers, Broadview PD and CCSO deputies began menacing demonstrators outside the ICE facility. Several arrests.

Pepper ball guns at the ready, a bit of a standoff going with remaining protesters. All people are doing is playing music.

Tonight, in Broadview — a suburb outside of Chicago where Illinois state troopers are doing crowd control near the ICE detention center.

I'm so proud of everyone from my old neighborhood of Rogers Park in Chicago. I see what you have been and are doing. I am so proud of how organized the community is and how much more so everyone is becoming. It is inspiring. Just one example... And this is something EVERYONE can do. Everyone.
Informational flyer about Rogers Park Whistle Protocols, explaining how to use whistles to alert neighbors of emergencies, with color-coded alerts, steps for use, and encouragement to form a crowd and stay loud for safety.

every time we’re out here we see new types of cops.

looks like the illinois department of correction’s tactical team is also here on site.

background: www.chicagoreporter.com/new-uniforms...
two cops in dark blue uniforms stand next to another cop wearing a blue polo a close-up of one officer’s patch. it reads “tactical dept corrections. illinois sort.”

i get that some staffer is churning these out but a simple “thank you for writing, we take our constituents’ opinions seriously” would have gone many, many miles further

btw i both called and wrote pritzker’s office to register my displeasure with state and county cops’ behavior at broadview and the answer i got back was practically nonsensical. i didn’t save it but it did not address any of my concerns directly

I openly had my misgivings about how a cis white man may handle this topic, but it's so unbelievably refreshing to see a politician, and a party leader at that, answer the question "can a woman have a penis?" with a simple "yes". No obfuscation, no trying to answer a different question, just "yes".

i will not allow trans women in mens prison to be discussed without mentioning v-coding and that they have a NAME FOR IT, and that trans women are little rewards for the wardens to hand out.

THEY KNOW WE ARE WOMEN. AND THEY KNOW TRANS WOMEN DIE THERE.

you do that by not accepting that right-wing framing in the first place. spanberger has accepted their framing. i have no hope she will actually fight for us when it counts

these opinions shifted majorly since 2014 because a coalition of extremely well-funded christian nationalists pushed scaremongering stories through right-wing media, not because people are inherently bigoted. they can be shifted back

Again today, local police outside Broadview just aggressively arrested more protesters. Tough to tell exactly how many, but looks like 3-4 people were just detained.

Happy National Coming Out Day, folks.
In such company you can find gaiety, humor, intellectual challenge, artistic temperaments, perseverance against odds, honor, comradeship, and love. Friendships can be deep, and loyalty can be unswerving.
In the gay life you can be yourself and form friendships with those who know what you are and who accept you and love you, not despite this or in ignorance of it. The group life is not a thing of shame, a den of iniquity. It is a circle of protection, a necessary part of a minority society. By shunning it, you shut yourself off from one of the most rewarding parts of being gay, but not from the fact of being gay.
The Homosexual In America by Donald Webster Cory ... I say that it is time to open the closet door and let in the fresh air and the sunshine; it is time to doff and to discard the secrecy, the disguise, and the camouflage; it is time to hold up your heads and to look the world squarely in the eye as the homosexuals that you are, confident of your equality, confident in the knowledge that as objects of prejudice and victims of discrimination you are right and they are wrong, and confident of the rightness of what you are and of the goodness of what you do; it is time to live your homosexuality fully, joyously, openly, and proudly, assured that morally, socially, physically, psychologically, emotionally, and in every other way:
Gay is good. It is.
