It's this. It's always been this.

It's always been something normal people denied, but now it's undeniable. And we have to address it.
Simply put, the Right unconsciously needs to make children suffer like they suffered, preferably even worse. They want to ensure they go through the same abuses and find power in moving from the role of abused to abuser.

That’s what’s underneath our fascist struggle.

Arendt is very careful to document that every step of the way, Eichmann did what he did because it was his job and because he had the permission structures to do it. Every time he, or the Nazis, encountered the SLIGHTEST bit of resistance, their efforts went to hell.

I'm seeing people using the phrase "banality of evil" more and TBH before you do that, you need to read the book. Arendt's point is that Eichmann was evil not out of malice, but because he lacked the moral will to think beyond himself or care about the consequences of his actions towards others.

Remember when the No Kings march happened last year, everyone went home happy, then we all saw the most worthless, pathetic "military parade" and it was a delightful failure?

I kinda expect this to be the sequel to that lmao

What we’re dealing with is more than just politics, which is an expression of deeper psychological processes.

This is an existential battle that will determine whether the world becomes more cruel and more deadly or if we end cycles of abuse and realize a better future. That’s the whole thing.

There’s a reason the Right hated any notion of mental health or safe places with children. As authoritarians they wanted to destroy any semblance of support for children so that they could continue the cycle of emotionally and psychologically and physically hurting children.

The psychology of Right Wing authoritarianism is rooted in backgrounds of being abused as children by authoritarians and then becoming abusers when they are adults.

That happens in families and it scales upwards to culture and politics. That’s what’s happening now.

The Right has spent years trying to push a return to child labor and attacking age of consent laws. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they’re exposing us to mountains of the most horrendous stuff imaginable while also normalizing it.

So much of what’s happening is the destruction of childhood.

Gutted to see so many coworkers lose their jobs at the Post today. If you know anyone who’s hiring a politics/culture/magazine writer with a law degree who also speaks Spanish:

This is easy:
1. They're kinda doing it to themselves lmao. Like.... they're so dumb lol.
2. Support new media. I love 404 Media for their tech journalism. Defector is excellent for sports stuff, plus their political stuff is wonderful. Aftermath is solid video game news and reviews and journalism.
Abolish legacy media.

we have 2 branches of govt populated with well over 500 members combined, nearly half of whom claim to be diametrically opposed to fascism, yet the best we can hope for is *maybe* some minor restraints on our militant thug abusers if we’re lucky.

But keep sending your hard earned money

This always drives me mad lmao. It's one or the other. You can't have both.

This is one of the Umberto Eco tenants of fascism: the enemy is both weak and strong. Stop doing this to yourself.

Conservatives are weak. Always. At all times. We're dealing with weak people flailing like toddlers.
Bluesky is that special place where someone will take time out from serialposting about how ICE can never defeat one mid sized midwesern city to post about how ICE is going to commandeer every voting booth in the US and all is lost

I refused.

They didn't tell me the judge had already ordered my release and return to Minnesota.’
