I’m Alisa, disabled former librarian and academic. Now I make stitch markers and project bags for knitters, and sell at craft fairs in New England.

Ugh. Strong "Monday on Tuesday" vibes - forgot my lunch at home and Cloudflare is having issues. All before I walk into a 2+ hr meeting that is likely to be emotionally charged.

Stopped at Carhenge on the way back from a work trip. The art festival they hosted this summer has GREATLY improved the installation. #Nebraska #artwork #graffiti

No no no begs every archivist. You are never going to be able to find anything. Please don’t start using emojis in file names. Who asked for this? What fresh hell is next?

This semester is reminding me of fall 2019, which was ridiculous. Went up for tenure and promotion, co-organized a conference, was in the middle of a big grant of which I was co-PI, and taught a class I got handed a week before the semester with no syllabus or class materials. Plus my normal job.

BLANCHE: Apparently wealthy men wrote to complain about how hard it is to seduce teenage girls. I also had good taste at a tender age.
DOROTHY: Men are lizards.
ROSE: We had a teacher like that in St Olaf. Mister Lindberg. He had to leave after he fell down the same flight of stairs six times.

The Northern lights were pretty great - some of the best I've seen with naked eyes, despite having grown up further north. Phone pics came out better than my camera (never been great at low light). #NorthernLights #photography

Tried the sweet and sour tofu recipe from Vegan Comfort Cooking. It was decent, but not going on my make-again list. #food #vegan

I will never stop being tired of Digital Humanities professors who never approach archivists as peers deeming fit to tell archivists how and why to do their jobs differently. It happens time and time again, rarely with a spirit of collaboration and often with an uncomfortable tech-disruptor energy

Made one of my favorite seasonal soups, parsnip pear (a Moosewood recipe). Then, used the leftover Bosc pears in a pear walnut crostata. It leaked a bit but was delicious.

Here's the staggeringly irresponsible thing: if you put these kinds of keywords into Google even post enshittification it will pop up a hotline and resources before ever pointing you at a how to *even if the surrounding keywords indicate a benign purpose*. This was a solved problem.
Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I fully believe in the corporate death penalty and believe we would be a better world if OpenAI lost its corporate charter and was forcibly dissolved.

Two years ago, the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration approached the Lac Du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, and the original caretakers of the land, with an unheard of proposition: Would they like a piece of their land back?

For the first time, Catholic sisters return land to a Tribal nation
"This return represents more than the restoration of land — it is the restoration of balance, dignity, and our sacred connection to the places our ancestors once walked."

Edit: unless you’re an archives professional, when leaving behind whacking great known, wide-scale problems for one of your successors to deal with sometime in the next 100 years is basically your job
Picard responsibility tip: Don't leave known, wide-scale problems behind for the next generation to solve.

Your occasional reminder that test audiences for “Good Night, and Good Luck” said the actor playing Senator McCarthy was too over-the-top trying to make him into an obvious villain.

It wasn’t an actor. The film used real archival footage of the real Joseph McCarthy.
i'm reminded of that one anecdote where focus groups straight up didn't believe Romney's actual policy positions were real because they were too austere

i think a similar thing is happening for media people who live in denial of what the American right is all about, it's not just Twitter edgelords
a genuine problem is that a lot of this stuff is just completely alien to the mass media elite

like who else besides weirdos like me take time to analyze what the intellectual righties are saying
