How did the @nytimes.com editors let this sentence appear?

"Critics have likened Mr. Trump’s approach to extortion, while others have chalked it up as a cost of doing business with this administration."

Two things we learned today:

1. Pete Hegseth murdered *suspected* drug runners.

2. Donald Trump pardoned a *convicted* drug trafficker.

That’s where we are, folks.

there is a direct line from 2001/2002 - Cheney (gloves are off), Gonzales (Geneva Conventions are "quaint"), Yoo (Geneva doesn't apply to Afghanistan) - to today.

a very direct line and long-term rot on the right.
“Should we follow the Geneva Conventions?” Pete Hegseth asked in 2024.

It’s almost as if there were signs!

WHOA. Trump says he will pardon Juan Orlando Hernandez, who once said that he wanted to “shove the drugs right up the noses of the gringos.” He had people killed as part of his narco-trafficking ring, which he at times operated directly out of his presidential office.

Everyone who couldn't vote for Harris because you insisted she was personally carrying out a genocide in the Levant, congratulations! You helped to empower a guy who does three genocides before breakfast each day. How's your conscience feel about that?
A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.

And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.

I think the main issue is not that folks are saying that Trump can do this because he's president, but that the president can do this because he's Donald Trump.

Almost every allowance of power Trump is allowed to get away with is one no other president in history has been allowed to.
It should go without saying, but the president has no authority to do this, and anyone reporting the story needs to say as such.
