just feels important to point out once again that I am NOT that Naomi Wolf
nyc is a magical place where, because I got stuck in a subway tunnel for 90 min tonight, I got home much later than expected and so was still awake at midnight and therefore able to get a reservation for the hot new Cambodian restaurant

Sure, they've made an environmentally catastrophic mass hallucination disinformation plagiarism Clippy that will destabilize the world, but also their other goal is to replace human workers entirely and let us humans starve. A boycott of AI is the most important boycott of your entire life.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

on the one hand I got in debates with my brother this weekend about RFK & AI (he's pro both)

but on the other hand my dad is now interested in reading Life After Cars. I'll take it.

meanwhile my sister and I were busy coming up with plot details for our fake romance novel and our pro-AI brother was like "chatgpt could come up with stuff faster" fully not grasping that this was both more fun and more fulfilling
my boomer parents are not very online but they've seen enough AI slop that they've mentioned in conversation that they hate AI and find it scammy and creepy.

they were never the target audience (lefty politics, print media fans) but the fact that they actively discuss their dislike is notable
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

the conductor on this train has A Personality and I only got 4 hours of sleep last night. we are not on the same level
I've had a miserable cold and barely left the house in the past 8 days, and yet it still feels important to sit and appreciate the quiet of my own apartment before spending the next 4 days in a rental house with 11 other people (6 adults, 5 kids) and a dog

growing up in a jewish family who spent christmas with our italian friends, christmas eve was the whole 7 fishes thing, and then christmas day was latkes & brisket (regardless of whether or not it was also hanukkah)
it fascinates me how most everyone in the U.S. does turkey for Thanksgiving, but we are all over the map as to what we eat for Christmas (as is proper for a hugely diverse nation).

I come from a Christmas prime rib roast family, myself.
I also use the bacon method. Although turkey is Christmas dinner where I come from.

what if instead of safety features, we got rid of the giant TV screens in cars?
Exclusive: Republicans plan to challenge vehicle-safety mandates, such as automatic emergency braking and alarms that remind drivers a child is in the back seat.
Senate Committee to Challenge Auto-Safety Mandates That Hurt ‘Affordability’
Republicans are questioning the value of some features, such as automatic braking and rear-seat reminders.

The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.
