None of this is particularly surprising if you've been paying attention. They are exactly who we thought they were. None of these people have any business being near government and politics.

The greatest power we have is shame. Most people would be ashamed to take a job with ICE, & we as a nation need to ensure those jobs are understood as sinful & as shameful. /12

This is also an important thread. Very insightful.
danahoule.bsky.social
This is an important thread. There are probably several hundred Federal agents who were sent to Chicagoland last month. They have inflicted cruelty & misery, they’ve gassed, & even shot & killed people. Every person they kidnap is a tragedy

But they actually haven’t got man people considering…/1

What Trump is doing is very bad. But I want to push back against some of the numbers here.

ICE did not hire 10,000 agents. It WANTS to. That it keeps running ads suggests it is struggling. And when it does, it seems to cannibalize local police, who don't like that.

More significantly:

In my more cynical moments, I ponder whether we may need to do more to appeal to the less bright among us.
mseyfang.bsky.social
I can give you a ton of policy reasons why we should do more for working people. But what I can't say is that it will pay political dividends. The demographic most likely to vote Republican are white no college men. They're not our voters and many of them like the racism. This is the sad truth.
rbreich.bsky.social
The future of the Democratic Party must be rooted in investing in the American people — not Wall St., corporations, and consultants.

Otherwise, Trumpism will continue to use cynicism, racism, and distrust to divide America.
mseyfang.bsky.social
Community is the way out of this mess. This kind of solidarity will defeat authoritarianism every time.
danahoule.bsky.social
That’s a key to the determined resistance to ICE in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago; it’s a racial plurality neighborhood (about a third white, about a third Latino, remaining third Black & Asian), & the non-Latinos have banded together to protect their neighbors from Kavanaugh sweeps.
ouij.bsky.social
The fact that protests now feature people who don’t normally have to worry about what might happen to them in an adverse encounter with security forces is a HUGE DEAL.

It means that the “real” victims don’t have to suffer alone. It means that some people care about something more than themselves
mseyfang.bsky.social
Fixed. Must have been a system glitch.

Suspended because racist & antisemitic leftists have nothing better to do than try to get people who don’t share their hatred suspended.
I’m going to give it another try

Could be chemo. Plenty of people out there with 3-4 week infusion cycles for maintenance/control. I know someone with multiple myeloma that's been in treatment for 10 years. Could also be infusion therapy for congestive heart failure, which would explain the swollen ankles.

Jesus. I just noticed the autocorrect typo in this. It should be "desegregated" not "desecrated". Aargh...
mseyfang.bsky.social
There's a whole history of why Truman desecrated the Armed Forces in 1948. Part of it was politics, spelled out in a memo from Clark Clifford and part of it was Truman's revulsion over mistreatment of returning Black GIs. It's undervalued as a catalyst to what came later.
mseyfang.bsky.social
Rural voters are getting exactly what they voted for. They are a core part of the Republican base and rural counties consistently voted 70-80% for Trump.

Baldwin: Our farmers are facing incredible headwinds. A lot of the fertilizer inputs come from Canada. Those have shot up because of tariffs. About a quarter of all farmers use the ACA for their health care coverage. This president is just contributing to the headwinds that our farmers are facing.

She was very specific in what she said he'd do and she was correct in every respect.
cwebbonline.com
She called it. Kamala Harris laid out Trump’s vengeance agenda before it even happened.

One line that stuck with me most from 107 Days was when she wrote that during the debate, Trump was “unburdened by the truth.”

He’s also unburdened by threat of accountability, thanks to the Supreme Court.

Trump and Vance are violating their oaths daily. Sounds pretty criminal to me.

This is not an argument they really want to be making.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Trump said Pritzker should be in jail. Do you think he has committed a crime?

VANCE: I think Pritzker has certainly failed to keep the people of Illinois safe

S: It's a yes or no question

V: I certainly think he has violated his fundamental oath. That seems pretty criminal to me

There is little need for superlawyers when the rule of law is gone. When that happens, all that matters is fealty to the regime.

No, it's more like the Regency Era under George III. Miller is the Prince Regent and Trump is the mad King.
ariellaelm.bsky.social
So Steven Miller is obviously the president. Trump is yet again, second in command, kind of, more like the comms director.

Does he have any companies or anything that we can protest in front of? Cause that worked really well with kicking Musk out of the government and maybe it would work here?
mseyfang.bsky.social
This is a danger, that the disillusioned Trumpers become even more radicalized.
jysexton.bsky.social
It’s true that some MAGA supporters are losing faith in Trump and expressing frustration. But evidence and trends suggest they’re flocking to explicit Fascists and growing more radicalized.

We can’t just sit back and hope. We have to fight.

Hitler juiced up the German economy early on, which paid dividends as he consolidated power leading up to the Anschluss of Austria and the territorial expansion into Czechoslovakia. These morons are tanking the economy for most Americans, which is just plain stupid.
daviddarmofal.bsky.social
Poor economic performance is one of the greatest threats to authoritarianism. Trump & Vance are seeing that right now.

Elite lawyers and firms just aren't built for this moment. It's a small world that runs on civility and conciliation and you wind up working with the same people and firms over and over. This moment requires a willingness to burn bridges and send people to prison. Different skill set.
danahoule.bsky.social
Oh FFS Jeh Johnson saying “we have to find a way to rise above it” rather than go after Trump people who are breaking the law.

It’s not universal, but in general elite law has been a failure.
