This entire thread is a great read. I'm not a published writer, but as someone who attempted their dream career and had to leave it behind, I think there's a lot in this for all of us.

But this particular one is what is most important to me. "The world will always need more stories."
Art is an act of hope. Writing is an act of rebellion. The world will always need more stories--from real human beings, not bullshit plagiarism machines. Every book is a love story from the author, and every reader is fighting the war against cruelty, ignorance, and hopelessness. We are fighting.

20 years ago, I said I would never DM a TTRPG again. I have good reasons, my style of creativity doesn't mesh with what makes a DM great.

But um...I may have just agreed to do a #CandelaObscura one-shot so our forever DM can actually play for once. 😱

"I miss three or four of the people I used to be."

Finally watching the first episode of Weird Kids after months of the husband telling me this was exactly the kind of thing I would like. He is correct.

Guillermo del Toro on wealth: "a wealthy man is a man who has enough, not a man that needs more. If you have enough to invite someone for a beer? You're rich. If you have a yacht, planes, islands, and you still need more? You're not rich."

As always I'm unfashionably late to the party, but we watched K-Pop Demon Hunters last night and yeah it's as good as everybody says.

I'll spare you all from all my rambling thoughts about it but I do think other filmmakers need to take note of it being the perfect blueprint for modern musicals.

I know a lot of people are already spreading this info, but hoping to spread it a little further: donating to a food bank, food pantry, or food distribution mutual aid group is really important right now, as TFG and the fucking GOP are shutting down snap benefits on November 1. I'll link to a few

This is incredibly true for how we travel, which is why I'm a huge fan of my e-bike.

There are so many benefits to bike travel. More cities and localities need to look at how they can make small changes to better support bikes.
A 2021 study from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics showed that 52% of all trips in the U.S. were less than three miles. 28% of trips were less than one mile. With slight tweaks, many of those trips could be done on bikes, e-bikes and other light electric vehicles, and walking.
I'm tempted to listen because I've yet to read an argument about "car addiction" that factors in that the continental United States covers 3.7 million square miles.

We Have at least 70? years of science fiction exploring this proposition and all reaching the same conclusions as Josie.

Which I only bring up because everyone involved in this AI thing is a science fiction fan, but not one who understands what they read.
It is morally wrong to want a computer to be sentient. If you owned a sentient thing, you would be a slaver. If you want sentient computers to exist, you just want to create a new kind of slavery. The ethics are as simple as that. Sorry if this offends

Lot of blatant and very funny pareidolia in the AI space. I no longer wonder why early humans thought every tree that had cankers in the shape of a smily face must be a god

We played our first session of Daggerheart tonight, and as someone who has never played a TTRPG aside from D&D, this is very different but also very fun.

Actually rolling D12s being the main difference, lol.

Always happy for a chance to say: I read every real study on the impact of bike lanes on street-level retail. They never hurt. They often help. Sometimes they help a lot:

For Introductions Necessary, I spent hours researching how to properly pronounce the names of the #WomenInSTEM that we featured. I'm lucky to have friends who speak many languages to help me out, but hearing a name from the person is best. If you know someone w/a Wikipedia page send them this link!
This is one of the reasons I started a project to ask people with Wikipedia articles to record themselves pronouncing their names

I mentioned weeks ago that I use tarot cards for journaling prompts.

Today's prompt: the Seven of Swords from the Dark Wood Tarot, with art by @abigaillarson.com

This made me write about why I need to learn to pick my battles and stop letting other people's issues become my own.

I do enjoy amusement parks, I really do. But in 2025 having either no posted wait times or grossly inaccurate ones is kind of silly. I just want to know how long I'll be waiting. App said 15 minutes. I got in line 20 min ago and I'm not even halfway.

Today's most important task: remember how to website.

Mostly because I want to actually code something and not just rely on a CMS. You want to get bored really fast, ask me why I hate most CMS.
