Not only do I like to read poetry, but I actually write poetry! (My poems are terrible, but I don't care!)
Question 6:
Do you like poetry or are you normal and think the vast majority of poems suck donkey balls but like 10-20 are deeply profound and beautiful?

I love it when my interests overlap. Today it's @semi-rad.com including a link to the @nikostratis.com newsletter on accidents & the Edmund Fitzgerald in his own Friday Inspiration newsletter.

A goat was behind a movie studio eating some old film from the trash bin and said aloud, "Hey! This is pretty good!"

And then some rando from the internet appeared and said, "Well actually, the book is better!"
Honestly, I find it kind of weird to reply to a post about how much someone likes a TV show or movie with "the book was better."
1st of all, no duh, that's true like 99% of the time and doesn't need to be stated.
2nd of all, you're jumping in to denigrate the thing I JUST said I liked. Nice, thanks?

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Peak Niko in this week's newsletter. Also, go read her book if you haven't yet!

(The book is "The Dad Rock that Made Me a Woman".)
I wrote, as expected, about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald in my newsletter. Also about the time I spilled coffee on myself in a drive-thru, and how that wasn't the worst thing to happen to me that day.

The Gales of November remembered
This is the beauty of the song, the heart of it in those who lost their lives in service of building a world many believed they never belonged to, as if they are men out of time.

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

I paused a few times to take photos during my run along the Slippery Rock Creek in McConnells Mill State Park, and this one is my favorite. It was a beautiful partly cloudy fall day.

The best way to "respond" to a bad take is not to mention the original take at all. It's to make a new statement that is actually true/that you want to magnify and share that instead. Its making a new story; building a stronger and more compelling narrative.

"Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe" came out in 1989. I was 11 years old, and I got the cassette via some kind of fundraiser. It's still one of my favorite Yes albums.
Problem is, you can do this for any year and make the same claim. That's Billboard Madness. You can't take an era and distill it down to the hot 100, it's not indicative of the vibe as a whole. This is a discourse poisoned lens on culture, making everything a binary win/lose game.
People need to stop retconning literally the worst era in American popular music history into something it wasn't, just because there were also some amazing records that like 250 people happened to be hunting down and listening to
