Another day, another practical reminder of the inconveniences and fuckery that brexit has caused.

This is what worries me the most. I can accept the media and politicians and governments being transphobic and actively working against us.

The judiciary however are meant to be fair and just. For them to be transphobic breaks that faith in them.

"As such, the UK has never been in compliance with the judgment, and the monitoring of the judgment was therefore closed prematurely in 2011."

I want compo for being mislead with my Gender Recognition Certificate issued in 2018.

Ouch

"The Supreme Court has made clear that the Equality Act was written in 2010 to refer to sex as ‘biological sex’, leading to ongoing violations of transgender people’s Article 8 privacy rights that the Goodwin judgment set out to protect."

Falkner literally admitted to a committee that she doesn’t think article 8 right to privacy applies to us.

Clearly the Home Secretary believes the same.

Cassandra of Troy was definitely trans.

This is a huge story but massively under the radar in the UK.

A US Christian legal org called the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) is working to roll back abortion rights here using the same playbook it used in the US: briefing politicians, watching, waiting.

This is a really great intro to Clickhouse and it's great to see someone explaining all the challenges with initially starting with it.

I'm using it for ingesting about 5bn rows of data a week and everything here is absolutely spot-on.

It cannot be made clearer.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.

With all due respect to Tom (seriously, not being sarcastic), I think he's wrong. Anyone who thinks this has not paid attention to how the successfully completely reversed the trajectory of trans equality in the UK in only 10 years.

They will probably manage the same with abortion.

Right-wingers who think tactics they've used to criminalize abortion in the US will have the same kind of traction in the UK fail to grasp that religious fundamentalism is widely viewed as nuts in the UK, & has been for many decades, if not centuries.

As much chance of abolishing UK gun controls.

The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

As a transgender woman trying to just live a simple quiet life in the UK, I'm pretty well placed to say this paragraph is complete bullshit and this government are shameless liars as well as hateful bigots who are actively shutting me out of participation in society.

… contains the following:

‘The UK is unwavering in its commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights for all, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other LGBT+ individuals.’

… and …

And yet it works. The direct instruction just works. It’s insane and stupid.

Another one: Someone seeing my posts on BlueSky led to them investigating an issue with NHS Blood and Transplant guidelines that were incorrect and putting some people at risk when donating blood.

They managed to get the guidance changed, and it wouldn’t have happened without social media.

Someone on BSky encouraged me to read a book, which lead me to a discord and meeting new people who I’m now in a relationship with.

Same. Livid they wouldn't allow 'grandfather rights' for those who wanted to keep EU citizenship and held it before 2016.

Never expected the UK would end up like this either. But it's good many of us are planning on safety.

All we can do is look after each other and provide mutual support and assistance.

They’re advanced as far as I’ve done some research but we’ve not locked in anything definite or researched it in depth yet.

Both options give a path to EU citizenship which is something I really want back. I just get so annoyed and sad when I think about what was taken from us.

Even if we do end up going to Ireland instead, it’s going to be useful to know the language as I plan to keep visiting it.

I think Ireland is going to end up being the choice for most people though due to language and the CTA making it easier, but it’s still tough to have to move country.

I’m fortunate enough that I am able to apply for the D8 visa, which would be my plan.

I’ve spent about 3 weeks there this year so far staying with friends and the vibe is just great and such a difference from the UK.

Going to start in person Portuguese lessons in January.
mintopia.net
Indeed, what happens with the EHRC guidance will set the stage for what happens next.

Family holidays to Portugal next week where I’m hoping they’ll see how nice it is and that becomes top of our list.

When we get back, we’ll know and plans will start in earnest.
mintopia.net
I think my family and I will be making solid plans by the end of the year and start downsizing/getting rid of unneeded stuff to make it as easy as possible when the time comes.

Ireland or Portugal are top of the list.
