Now normally I would not dare besmirch the legacy of a proud patriarch such as yourself, especially during a season of giving so pockmarked by mourning.

But nonetheless I have begun to question whether the death of dear Grandma may in fact be more than the random Yuletide calamity it appears to be.

I don’t remember posting this, but I stand by it.
The next season of White Lotus should just be all the characters from Andor at a resort.

This thread is a great reminder: it’s a marathon, not a sprint. It’s easy to remember singular acts in retrospect, but I liken it to those who succeed in creative endeavors: every “overnight success” with any lasting power is invariably built on years of preparation and perseverance.
Like @prisonculture.bsky.social, I've been worried about the ways popular myths of the civil rights movement make it hard to see how to struggle today. The movement’s success was never a given. It took much longer and required tremendous sacrifice without certainty it would work

In order to establish a compromise solution that pleases no one, I propose that the United States implement metric imperial units. Instead of a mile, we will use kiloyards. Instead of ounces, centipounds. And so on.

As an audio engineer and producer, I’ve taken to leaving more rough edges in my tracks. AI (like Suno) can make music that sounds perfect, but it doesn’t have the quirks that imperfect human hands and voices create. As AI pulls music to a boring center, proof of life makes my ears perk up.
I think it would be fun if writers who love language started intentionally writing more strangely as AI flattens written "content" into a mono-voice. it would cool I think if writers responded by focusing their individual efforts on cultivating a really unique voice that's hard to copy

I’m currently (an American) vacationing in Costa Rica and some of the BYD and Chery cars here are beautifully designed and shockingly affordable. The Chery iCAR 03 is a gorgeous EV starting under $30k USD. China is absolutely eating our lunch, and this wound is wholly self-inflicted.

people, you have the chance to put my book ahead of Olivia Nuzzi’s on the bestseller list. put aside all other considerations and think how objectively funny this would be. #1, that Mountain Goats guy. #2, Antivax Man Has My Heart. funniest list of the century. We can do this if we try

It’s really, REALLY not. If the vanishingly small step ladder that makes the impossible (or incredibly difficult/painful) possible for some of us ALSO helps those who might not consider themselves disabled to perform better, then fuck yes to that.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

That’s a cassowary. You’re thinking of the amusement ride consisting of a rotating circular platform with seats for riders.
casserole? oh that's easy. a casserole is a giant flightless bird with a big battering ram on top of its head.
What’s casserole?

Seriously, I’ve never eaten one in my life.

Is a lasagna a casserole? How about a shepherd’s pie?
