Fair point. When I send invoices for freelance pieces, I'm often asked to include whether I prefer to be paid through direct deposit, a paper check, or cold hard cash in a Cava bag at a pre-arranged drop site.

I’ve enjoyed the many posters who have replied to me who think they know the English language better than the Oxford dictionary.

I’ve also enjoyed the people who have decided that a citing a definition form the foremost English language dictionary is somehow ‘antisemitic’.

Tom, who I was replying to, doesn’t think genocide is the right term for what happened in the Americas to indigenous people, 90% of which died.

Words have meaning, often multiple, no one has a monopoly.

I did read the whole thing.

I cited a definition of historical usage of the term.

It’s a word. No culture, religion, or nation has a monopoly on it.

Also, the person I was responding to doesn’t think ‘genocide’ is the right word for what happened to 90% of indigenous people in the Americas. 🤷

Well, one culture can have a singular meaning for something.

That doesn’t mean every other culture can’t have their own meaning.

I am not making a semantic argument. I am citing the foremost English language dictionary in the world. The citation comes with historical uses.

Nope. I landed on holocaust because of someone else’s post, namely Tom’s.

I don’t weaponize trauma.

I posted an Oxford dictionary definition.

If you think posting a definition from the most respected dictionary in the world is weaponizing something, you should probably stay away from words.

I am aware of both the Hebrew word and other definitions.

Historically it was a religious reference.

It can also mean destroying something by fire.

But the modern usage is quite clear…

I am fine with bringing Bibi to justice.

But words have meanings for a reason.

Tom doesn’t like all kids of ‘woke’ words. Those words and terms he feels are wrong or not productive.

Then he will make posts seemingly unaware what other highly charged words mean…🤷

Tom, holocaust has a very simple definition. Slaughter on a mass scale.

So the fact you think there has only been holocaust 1.0 and no other events can use the word is a bit odd.
