Touching this bird can result in numbness & tingling in extremities. Eating it can result in paralysis or death ☠️.

Let's talk about neurotoxic birds 🐦.

A bird with black head and wings but red-orange body is slightly annoyed to be touched by a human hand, beak semi-open in protest, as if about to complain. In the background is a lush forest scene.

Eric Idle, Mark Hamill & Harrison Ford in 1979.

Whilst filming 'The Empire Strikes Back', Carrie Fisher rented Eric's apartment while he was in Tunisia filming ‘The Life of Brian’.

They were partying there when Eric happened to drop in. (The Rolling Stones turned up later)

Kubrick's ‘The Shining’ and ‘The Muppet Show’ were filming next door to each other at Elstree Studios, and that’s how Danny Lloyd got to visit and hang with Kermit in 1979.

At the request of the U.S. Department of Justice, a Facebook group used by nearly 80,000 people to report sightings of federal immigration agents in the Chicago area has been taken down by the social media giant Meta, Facebook’s parent company.
Facebook suspends popular Chicago ICE-sightings group at Trump administration’s request
The group, "ICE Sighting-Chicagoland," has been increasingly used in the last five weeks of President Donald Trump’s intense deportation campaign to warn neighbors that federal agents are nearby.

emollick.bsky.social
On AI & water usage, it looks like all US data center usage (not just AI) ranges from 628M gallons a day (counting evaporation from dam reservoirs used for hydro-power) to 200-275M with power but not dam evaporation, to 50M for cooling alone.

So not nothing, but also a lot less than golf courses.

Aghion (et al) have a paper on China, they recognised long ago & before many that the Chinese model departs from the East Asia model in having a Darwinian struggle-to-the-death competition of firms behind a wall of protection. It pairs Schumpeterian growth theory w the economics of industrial policy

Mokyr's work could not have been done today in most economics departments, but the irony is that his work would not fit in history departments today, either. Methodologically he seems more 'history' than 'economics' to economists, but the content and reasoning are too 'economics' for most historians

Epidurals are rare in Japan, where some believe that women who endure childbirth without pain-relief enjoy closer bonds with their children. Hoping to nudge up the number of babies being born, Tokyo govt has begun rolling out subsidies to help women pay for epidurals and chip away at that stigma
To Tackle a Baby Shortage, Tokyo Tries Easing the Pain of Childbirth
The Japanese capital is rolling out subsidies for epidurals in a country where cost is a barrier and women are often encouraged to endure the pain of delivery.

Using a swearword in your Google search can stop the AI answer. But should you? www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Unless your query is actually about AI, you can also skip the AI overview by adding "-ai" to your Google search terms. But I guess that wouldn't make for good clickbait
How can I avoid using AI?

AI overview has a "profanity trigger". If you ask Google "What is AI?", its Gemini AI interface will deliver you a potted (and sometimes inaccurate) answer. It's functioning as an"answer engine" rather than a “search engine”.

But if you ask "What the fuck is AI?", you will be delivered straight search results, linking to other pages.

There are various browser extensions that can block AI sites, images and content.

Não caia do papo de que a rejeição da MP 1303 foi uma conspiração dos ricos, uma sabotagem.
A oposição fez o papel de oposição e a MP ampliava as distorções e poderia até piorar a situação fiscal.
