Face taxes or face pitchforks.
This thread makes a point I find myself coming to often these days.
It's hard to make this point in a way that doesn't sound like a threat, but it's just a fact that for centuries the wealthy in America worried that the mob would come get them and did all they could to avoid that fate.

lol what the wealthy today don't seem to understand is part of staying wealthy in society is not pissing off the masses.
There's a reason why Carnegie and the Rockefellers poured money into institutions. Gutting institutions and making it harder for the masses to survive is a...choice.

Yeah, what the fuck, we need another gaudy eyesore built to Trump aesthetics at taxpayer expense. Why the fuck not. Not like there's any better use for that money.

This is the kind of news that inspires me to make popcorn. Seriously, dude wants banks to give him a do-over? Really?
Elliott Broidy is also suing @americanexpress.bsky.social, claiming he was denied him a credit card because of his conviction for illegal foreign lobbying, even though he was pardoned by Trump.
AmEx says he was denied because he had previously misused his accounts.

A central component of Republican mental illness is their fetishization of what they imagine victimhood to be. It's like grown-ass adults who love dystopian YA fiction where all problems are solved after a little lightweight performative "suffering".

yeah...that's one of their favorite stories to tell: "Democrats stood their ground. Will this come back to haunt them in the midterms?" -- it gives them reliable copy they've already written many times over, so they can just search-and-replace

This is a brilliant succinct takedown of AI-generated media. But also, you really wanna look upthread.
Whatever they do with AI brainrot, it will never beat watching a real jerk take a sharp blow to the gonads, and knowing that it's real. And if the AI promoters are honest with themselves, they know that too.

I know the news is worse every day, but I'm about done with constant posts of "you people should be terrified and freaking out and you're just not doing enough of that (for me)". Think what it says that your response to a crisis is to demand that OTHER PEOPLE act terrified in ways that satisfy you.

it's not considered a cultural problem because people in prison are seen as deserving harm.
these vague cultural moral panics aren't about solving real problems. they're about asserting that current hierarchies need to be more rigorously enforced.

this exact dynamic - where trump says or does something awful, everyone spends days downplaying it, and then he loudly doubles down - has played out roughly 7000 times and it’s why I have exactly zero patience for anyone who tries to sanitize his nonsense
