When I was a kid, cynics said "the president claims his war is about human rights but it's REALLY about controlling oil!". Now cynics are saying "the president claims his war is about controlling oil but it's REALLY about his own personal involvement in a mass child trafficking network!".
Look, I'm not one to quickly believe in conspiracy theories about us attacking Venezuela on a made up provocation to distract from the Epstein files, but the timing of all this is not helping me convince myself that it's not true.
Trump: "Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled ... It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the USA all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us."

I had been searching earlier for a map of this sort.

One cannot help but notice exactly none of these locations are particularly close to the continental United States, nor are most of them on any course that would ever become close.

Just murder for murder's sake.
I'm not sure if people realize the murder strikes are taking place across a large region. It's quite staggering.

Literally the most important story in UK politics today. A low discount rate unlocks public investment in a much bigger array of infrastructure projects, as it changes how Government accounts for the future benefits of them.
HM Treasury have confirmed the review of the 'discount rate' used in the Green Book.

This is the rate used in business cases to discount future values in the calculation of benefit cost ratios. Is usually 3.5% now. The higher the rate, the lower the value of the future.

Chief Secretary appoints experts to lead review of Green Book discount rate
Review will ensure government is taking a fair view of the long-term benefits that arise from transformational investments.

The key facebook group which was helping narrow down a list of houses to attack and has been unrepentant in supporting the rioting is run by people from Ballymena.
It is still up and nobody behind it facing any charges, of course.
During the racist rioting in Ballymena some politicians claimed the trouble was coming from outsiders. Odd how the addresses being listed in court for these cases are all of people from the Ballymena area.

I called a friend once after learning he was in trouble and he opened with 'Yeah I got caught smuggling meth across the border' and I was like '[FRIEND] YOU ARE ON A PUBLIC LINE TO A REPORTER'
Even then being surprised a reporter reported something you told them is like being surprised when you incriminate yourself to a cop and then they arrest you.

Like that's their whole job! Maybe just don't talk to them if you're worried that might happen!

With Reform UK asking civil servants to tell them what things are like on the inside, our own survey of more than 100 civil servants ranked HEO or higher in July looked at how well they think Whitehall is performing

One of the biggest moments of my career:
USCIS canceled my client’s naturalization oath ceremony. We filed a lawsuit, went to trial, and the judge swore him in right there in the courtroom!

But can we *prove* the non-existence of the invisible gravy vessel?
You can no more damage Trump’s "reputation" than you can ride in an invisible gravy ship to a planet made entirely of turkey. Because none of those things exist.

Just been laughed at by an entire vet’s waiting room when the receptionist loudly welcomed me and ‘ASTEROID DESTROYER!’ to the building.
Look guys.
She’s even in her space suit.
They will be laughing on the other side of their labradors when she RULES THE WORLD!!!! ✊😾

Better to follow Draghi's logic - things Europe won't do (solar, low value-added manufacturing), can do (EVs, R&D in hard to abate sectors) and must do (wind, batteries, pharma and biotech).

Haha, well, I'd say this is a new low in The Spectator's coverage of my Reith Lectures. There is so much wrong with the piece that it’s hard to know where to begin, but a few points stand out --> /1
Given the way things work in the BBC, it comes as no surprise that a Dutchman has been chosen to lecture us on modern British history.

Kendall says 'no clear consensus'. when 97% of people oppose a plan I think that's quite a clear majority. Unless she thinks we're in an anarchist cooperative and really wants full consensus before we take any decision

The reason we thought it worth writing is that I don't think this is obvious to everyone. And even if you know unemployment is rising, you might not know that it 'explains' *all of* the change in employment compared to pre-pandemic.
