"Transsexuality is bourgeois" reflects the common belief that medicine, technology, and any improvements to quality of life are owed to capitalism. The reality is that capitalism holds these improvements hostage for the sake of wealth.

D'Angelo speaking out about the physical and emotional burden of maintaining a nearly unobtainable physique and sexy image as a Black male artist should be taught in labor studies. It absolutely impacted how I analyze pop culture.

I just couldn't believe it. What the fuck.

I'm so glad I managed to listen to his discography beforehand, really made me want more of the kind of organic, passionate R&B and Soul for years to come.

RIP to D'angelo, one of the best out there. I'm extremely heartbreaken.

I'm absolutely stunned. RIP to the legend D'Angelo. Bar none, one of the greatest musicians of this generation

Meet things where they are.

It'll demand you look inside yourself to do so. It'll be the hardest thing you'll ever do, to confront that ineffable core.

Then come out the other side with a curious passion that'll open your world.

Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

In this new album, Upchuck adds sharpness to their skuzzy punk rock. Despite stumbling in balancing the familiar with the risky, there's more polish and kinship that show growth. A potency worth hearing.

My review of Upchuck's newest album, 'I'm Nice Now', is up now on @northern-trans.bsky.social

After testing the waters on their debut, Mabe Fratti & l.Ia Catolica now found their footing, crafting amplified emotions through firmer compositions that fly up to the heavens. Overall concise, & extremely moving.

God, I haven't thought about Beware of the Blog for ages but this is a huge loss, there's so much great stuff in there. Hopefully Wayback Machine's got it all.

The old WFMU blog, Beware of the Blog, has not been updated since 2015, but we've continued to keep all the pages accessible to the public. Our host Typepad is now going out of business (let this be a lesson as to how unsafe "the cloud" is), and all blog pages will disappear on September 30. (1/2)

Man, really wanted to love this one.

For a film about queer bond, it's filled with gorgeous aspects that are worth looking & listening, but the plot goes into turns that don't amplify its emotional resonance.

My review of Petersen Vargas' film, Some Nights I Feel Like Walking, is up on 24Frames!

On this week's Bandcamp Picks of the Week segment, I go for two delightful finds. One blends death metal with chilling post-punk snarl, the other is a reflective plugg folktronica. Both are great and worth listening to.

My write-ups of FLOATING and Zyber's albums are up on MGR Mag!

After his 2023 project, McKinley Dixon gets more ambitious. Crafting a story about magic & grief, unfolding through some of his enrapturing songs to date.

This is magic worth hearing, one of the best hip-hop albums of 2025!

Has been a while since I've wrote a film review huh?

Here, I talk about The Peasants, and how its visual spectacle amplifies the vivid and gripping drama on display. Quite the remarkable piece of film.

In the recent Bandcamp Picks of the Week, I speak about @celestaphone.com & Dealers of God's brand of psychedelic, heady hip-hop that goes on layers of zany bars that strangles conspiracy theory bullshit at bay. You wouldn't hear anything like this one this year, check it out!

In this album review, I managed to discuss one of the coziest and friendliest IDMs in a long time. Filled with so much contrasting tones and textures that work together.

My review of Yetsuby's newest album, '4EVA', is up now on listencorp. One of the best albums of 2025!

The debut self-titled record from Addison Rae is an interesting but a lackluster listen. So much atmosphere is being put in, but the rest of the project just don't make it sound special.
