Remember April 2009 when about 250,000 people took to America’s streets in Tea Party rallies and the media was like “oh man, the Dems are in trouble?” Approximately 28X as many people took to the streets to protest Trump yesterday. Didn’t even make the NYT front page.
In April of 2009 I observed the Tea Party rally in Salem. As this front page story says, there were a couple hundred people there. This past weekend in Salem there were roughly 2-3000 people at the Hands Off rally. Yet the Tea Party coverage seemed to take that event far more seriously.

I found this a really illuminating thread on what demonstrations do and why they matter.
In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

The average amount of SNAP received is about $173. Which means you could fund nearly a million families for a month if we just didn't buy her two private jets to fly around and do racist pressers. Which by the way, seems excessive.
Do I understand this correctly? We're shelling out $172 million for two private jets for DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and other federal officials while no funds are available for SNAP (food stamp) recipients in November. Does that about cover it?
$172 million on private jets for Kristi Noem? Incredible.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard is supposed to save lives and protect our coasts, but apparently it’s easier and far more important to fund her personal travel budget. Wasteful doesn’t even begin to cover it.
I would like someone to please tell me this is not real and thank you
it's in the replies in the off chance anyone's is curious to witness this, but I didn't want to repost an AI video directly, also, and I definitely don't want to somehow lose track of this aspect by seeming too level headed about all this, while it's not the worst thing he's doing now, what the fuck
I know it's a fool's errand to expect anything from the media but "President posts video of himself dumping diarrhea on America" is an important thing to call attention to for a dozen reasons

ANY ARRESTS? Among the millions upon millions of "violent leftist radicals" that took to the streets today I cannot find word of a single arrest. Even when everything is peaceful there is usually an overzealous cop or something. This is unheard of. We need to beat the media over the head with it.

I know Donald Trump is a pathological liar, malignant narcissistic sociopath, racist, antisemite, misogynist, xenophobe, homophobe, transphobe, hater of our troops and believer in euthanizing folks with disabilities, but we too often forget that he's *also* an adjudicated rapist and convicted felon.

Pritzker: Throughout history we've learned that tyranny doesn't arrive with dramatic proclamations. Most times it comes quietly wrapped in the language of law and order, with fingers pointed at someone who doesn't look like you, promising safety while demanding that we sacrifice our neighbors.
How is it IN THE YEAR 2025 do I need to see Young Frankenstein on TV to be reminded:

This is truly a timeless classic that will be funny forever

They’re saying 100-150,000 in Minneapolis today.

A great rally. An important moment. Let’s ake it forward.
Color me impressed. She really held his feet to the fire.
Ran into Ted Cruz at the airport and called him out for his BS lies and shutting the government down
It’s like what @eringloriaryan.bsky.social has been saying on the Hysteria podcast- the best thing we can do is ruin the pictures. Being goofy, joyful etc fucks up their narrative. It’s so simple and so smart.
I just love so much that “cringe” and “resistlib” tactics are absolutely winning the day.

Hark, Speaker Mike Johnson! Looking at all the many, many pics of the enormous, joyous “No Kings” rallies throughout the United States today, I am struck by what lovely weather your Lord and Savior provided. Apparently, God is a fan of, as you claimed, "America-hating Antifa terrorists." Glory!

Per CNN, the White House has just issued a two-word response to what may be the largest day of protest in US history—and those two words perfectly encapsulate why No Kings Day exists.

The response from would-be King Donald to outrage over his destruction of our traditions and norms is, "Who cares?"
