The Equal Rights Amendment won a supermajority vote in Congress, but failed ratification with 35 states, not 38. Add hyper-partisan political parties and we are stuck in the proverbial Big Muddy.

My gut tells me a solid majority of Americans don't like being pushed around. In this respect, Trump/Miller/Vought et al overplay their hand and invite pushback. But the extent of institutional capitulation is disturbing. Transformational leadership is wanting; for the moment, we have no Dr. King.
