Didn't want this to get buried because it's important: You really can request a proclamation for basically anything you can imagine. Elected officials LOVE doing this shit and a wise and stealthy prankster could, I am just saying, probably trick an office into proclaiming something subversive.
Your member of Congress has a form for requesting proclamations, usually on their website, although you can also call them for more information. You can do the same thing with state legislators, boards of supervisors, etc. Be the proclamation you wish to be in the world, comrades, sky's the limit.

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

I have noticed this too. Take a pause and make sure you know that what you’re sharing is what you (or the person sharing it) are telling people it is.
Definite uptick in Bluesky content aggregators taking legit clips regarding Minnesota from a few days or weeks ago and posting them without any sort of timestamp context, which gives the impression of them happening today, which then gets clicks. Be vigilant with what and how you share.

I paid my therapist a zillion dollars to tell me this, so I’m passing it on to anyone else in MN who needs to hear it:

Think of taking time away to recharge not as not doing the work, but as doing quality control for the work. You’re not going to be able to show up to do it well if you’re depleted

Do you have a suspicious hot dish recipe?
Do you want to help me a community sourced cookbook that will raise funds for MIRAC and Sanctuary Supply Depot?

I made a form. You can submit a recipe here.

Mutual Aid by Dean Spade is free on Libro for the next week (until 2/2).

We know that books can't fix everything, but they can help us show up for and strengthen our communities. Our employee book club read this last year, leading to a great discussion. We hope that it helps others do the same 💗 ⏬

If everything is too much, I can very much recommend a brief nap (or puzzles in bed or whatever) with a dog. It really helps!

We've made this Sinister Minnesotans shirt from our Stan Kelly comic this week.

Net proceeds from this shirt will be donated to local organizations doing their part to keep Minnesotans safe and send ICE agents home to ruin their own fucking communities.

Fuck ICE and stay strong, Minneapolis.
'Sinister Minnesotans' T-Shirt
Show your solidarity with the Sinister Minnesotans refusing to back down from the ICE agents currently polluting their great state with brutality, lawlessness, and an obvious dependence on testosteron...

Throughout a career in publishing, the commonest problem I’ve found in authors trying to break into the business is their fear of taking themselves seriously. If that’s you, try this. (Little thread follows.)
1. Remove “aspiring” or “would-be writer” from your bio. Replace it with “writer.”

I’m seeing increased use of this word and I just want to gently suggest that if there’s one word you can manage to remove from your vocabulary it should be this one.

It was coined by a eugenicist who used it as a diagnosis to forcibly institutionalize and sterilize mentally disabled people.
The Origins of the Word "Moron" Are Actually REALLY Sinister
It's much more than just a casual insult.

Bill Watterson is my favorite cartoonist. I adored the relationship btw Calvin and Hobbes as a child. But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.

We've been subjected to barrages of bad news after bad news after bad news, and this isnt even something recent. We've been on a constant barrage of horrible news with barely anything positive since 2020.

Rough vibes on this website today, likely because people feel Hopeless and Helpless Because Can't Stop It and No One Who Is Supposed To Is Trying To So Now We're Fighting Each Other™. I recommend activities such as book, or potentially instrument if you like instrument, or even do talk on phone.

Personally I just really love reading.

But I also adore libraries so go to your library this new year. They have all the books, you can request books and they nearly all have a online service for e books these days. #Libraries2026
