Since you all love #Oddsock. He has a statement.

"My human is at risk in UK only because she's autistic. Here we lock up autistic kids & adults for decades for no reason - 2500 of them right now & we do nothing about it. No dog should lose their humans this way. This is what should be trending"

I have mild hypermobility, the other end of the spectrum from EDS. But I still experience everything on the LHS of the diagram, except I've never dislocated anything. Young, I was just flexible. Now, it's usual for me to have a dozen strains or sprains at any time. Gut-aches too; thin skin... 🤷‍♂️
FYI just reminding everyone with #Neurodivergent #Autistic #ADHD themselves or kids the co occurring #EDS might be up to 50% ....like theres alot of us, so it might be pain thats the issue. See @sedsconnective.org for all the info there.

#EDS Tip if you getting xrays because your joints are subluxed ...when you lay down flat your joints can go back into place and then it shows up nothing. Then you stand up put then under weight and they move again....

You need a stress X-rays/dynamic xray to show the slippage or subluxate. ⬇️

"Streeting has blustered about assessments “pathologising feelings”, apparently missing the fact that his GPs have long doled out antidepressants as a sticking plaster for everything from grief to menopause."

Wes Streeting is punching down on young people with ADHD
The health secretary’s announcement of a review into ADHD and autism assessments is another example of his missing the point, writes Kat Brown. Post-Covid Britain is on its knees, and its young people...

Streeting’s “apology” = Tactical Stunt, convenient & performative Comes late.

Labour keeps reviews, courts stigma and then tries to pretend it didn't mean it. They let the stigma, outrage and welfare framing hit the news.. then say oops got that a bit wrong.

This just seems like the wrong end of the telescope to me. Review should be into barriers to employment, not diagnosis.

I really *do* have a fine motor condition, but in the 21st century this poses absolutely no barrier to me working in 90 per cent of jobs in the UK.
Wes Streeting orders review of mental health diagnoses as benefit claims soar
Wes Streeting orders review of mental health diagnoses as benefit claims soar
Health secretary has asked experts to investigate whether normal feelings have become ‘over-pathologised’ The health secretary, Wes Streeting, has ordered a clinical review of the diagnosis of mental health conditions, according to reports. Streeting is understood to be concerned about a sharp rise in the number of people making sickness benefits claims because of diagnoses for mental illness, autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), the Times reported. He has asked leading experts to investigate whether normal feelings have become “over-pathologised”, the newspaper said, as he seeks to grapple with the 4.4 million working-age people now claiming sickness or incapacity benefit. The figure has risen by 1.2 million since 2019, while the number of 16 to 34-year-olds off work with long-term sickness because of a mental health condition is said to have grown rapidly in the same period. Streeting told the Times he knew from “personal experience how devastating it can be for people who face poor mental health, have ADHD or autism and can’t get a diagnosis or the right support”. He added: “I also know, from speaking to clinicians, how the diagnosis of these conditions is sharply rising. “We must look at this through a strictly clinical lens to get an evidence-based understanding of what we know, what we don’t know, and what these patterns tell us about our mental health system, autism and ADHD services. “That’s the only way we can ensure everyone gets timely access to accurate diagnosis and effective support.” The review, which is expected to be launched on Thursday, is set to be led by Prof Peter Fonagy, a clinical psychologist at University College London specialising in child mental health, with Sir Simon Wessely, a former president of the Royal College of Psychiatry, acting as vice-chair.
