Howdy, I’m Kate! In short, I write stories, you should read them!

In long I’m a Star Trek author, rape survivor, former MHT for teens, and current sociologist nerd from the American South.

Spirk really does write itself doesnt it? These two are so cosmically gay for each other that it just happens- even when that’s not the intention

Oswald’s such a special character that even Black Ops has Mason, in one of his many delirium fueled mumblings, call out “Oswald!!… compromised!!“ and in that universe it could mean like fifteen different things (and in that universe Oswald probably DID all fifteen different things)
Lee Harvey Oswald was an absolute weirdo who was so personally off-putting that when he tried defecting to the USSR, they collectively went "wow, uh, no thanks, actually".

Truly one of the most brutal indictments of someone up until Ryan Routh was declared too much of a loon for the Foreign Legion.
He was a trained marine who defected to Russia for a while..he was a little more than a "sad little dork" he was an ideal patsy
One of those episodes that seems like a throwaway in the grander scheme but, like basically all of Enterprise, it means so much to the characters and the universe. A hopeless mission in uncharted space reminding them they’re never alone.

Plus my wife loves the episode for its T’Pol arc so…
(1/4) “E2” may be a riff on “Children of Time”, but in the Xindi Arc, with the crew all alone in the Expanse, it has quite a different tone. It also has a moving scene for T’Pol, which crucially is the first step for her in learning to live with the onslaught of emotions she’s been struggling with.

Good post and article. Also, coming as someone who travels a lot and listened to the entirety of “MiG Alley” on audiobook, the fact that we are now back around to the air superiority argument and how planes can do everything is just… Something else.
anyways opening quote is from linked, which combines reasonable tactical advice like "we should have integrated ground-based air defenses" with crazy strategic thinkering like "we can fight a whole-ass war without ever shooting back"

Protest movements that stop as soon as they start seeing results fail.

Protest movements that keep going until your whole squad is across the finish line win.
Visa employees clearly told to deescalate ASAP
MasterCard employees more than familiar with the issue
Stripe feeling the pressure
ACLU put out a statement
CBC covered all this

KEEP CALLING

It’s disgusting. A small group of open bigots in Australia being favored over an entire medium and at least tens of thousands of people.

This is real censorship. Not the version perceived by the free speech warriors who are silent/celebratory on this. May their phone lines be swamped forever.
Strangely* despite getting many times that number of calls in opposition to their censorship, they've started yelling at people, hanging up and screening emails instead. Weird, huh.

* not really

I didn’t realize there is an entire genre of wehraboo talk on substack and I was just reading one that called the Wehrmacht’s response to D-Day “one of the most impressive operational schemes of 20th century warfare” and I was like:

KOSA is back. This is the internet censorship bill!

And it's not just coming for SWers, it'll be coming for all LGBTQ content, because the people in charge view LGBTQ people as inherently pornagraphic!

We must push back even harder than we did last time we killed this bill 🔥

The point of calling credit card companies isn't to make John Visa have moment of introspection and go "aw shucks I was wrong!" it's to grind business to a halt for such an extended period of time that all the higher ups who are real people with names and addresses decide that this isn't worth it
I didn’t realize this until paying our electric bills last month! Hitting a bunch of wrong inputs automatically tells the machines to connect you to an agent- especially if you do it before they can complete their “sorry can you try that again” part!

Keep pushing and drown them out!
Friendly reminder for those that don't know it in the midst of this #Visa and #MasterCard situation.

Their automated systems rely on inputs to do their job, but repeated entry of a completion key when prompted (such as the #) will usually result in your call being pushed through to a person.

Call call call. Visa is literally begging us to stop calling and send emails. Calls cost them way more money and they can't use key words to filter them out
Welcome to the weekend! You made it sailor. Which censorious payment processor would you like to call first? Thanks to my moot @dieselbrain.bsky.social for the Stripe number, can confirm it works

Call your credit card processor and complain about the pressure on Itch.io and Steam. It is extremely easy. Tell them that if you can't use your credit card for purchasing art from award winning game developers, then you will cancel it and switch to other methods of payment.
it's the same number in Canada btw. And there was only about 30 seconds of wait time before I got to unload on a CS rep. You are right, they tried to push to email, and I simply said "No, I would rather do this by talking to someone."

Whole thing took me about 7 minutes including wait time to do.

DON'T STOP CALLING.

email them if you want, sure, but the fact that they are requesting people to *email them instead* (presumably because emails are much easier to ignore) means that the calls are WORKING, i.e. becoming a massive nuisance and interrupting workflow.

once again, DON'T STOP CALLING.

If you want to actually solve the problem, instead of punishing itch, start calling payment cos

Collective Shout, which is run by people who get published by Spinifex, a very terf-seeming organization, apparently needed 1,000 people to yell at visa to get this done.

We got more than 1000 people.

ok then. one angle of attack then needs to be actively bombarding Visa and Mastercard's phone numbers and emails.

are customer support phone numbers/emails the best avenue to start with or is there a better option?
The fact that they only needed ~1000 people to call in and email to get their way is actually pretty crazy. There are more people on some of the Discord servers I'm in that could equal their weight, and some of these are just podcast fandoms.
Pretty damn stellar work for riffing! Romulan political history has always been fascinating since I first read about Ael, so this project has been amazing to follow. It all flows so naturally and really builds up a relatively murky area of the universe
The greatest thing about the Romulan Empire is how secretive it is. You never know what’s going on beneath the curtain of the raptor’s wing- which is why From The Ashes has been such a stellar work every step of the way.

preaching to the choir, but this would obviously be financially devastating to many independent comic and game artists using itch to release queer or adult works, myself included - around half of my annual income comes from itch comic sales every year
So you know how Steam updates their TOS to restrict "NSFW" content at the request of payment processors like Visa and Mastercard?

The group behind that pressure campaign is coming after Itch.io.

If you are selling books on itch, this concerns you.
