Extremely tangential, but the Jan 6th - Jan 20th triumvirate is one of those things that is unknown to most of the population. It has had no effects, and I thought it would.
one of the weirdest things that people believe on a website where the collective mood changes every thirty-six hours is that events completely unknown to 60% of the population, where 90% have the facts wrong, will have persistent effects eighteen months later

instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

In Our Majesty's Secret Service Lazenby looks to the camera and says "This never happened to the other Fellow." It's really not that serious.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

"It doesn't matter whether we got concessions, Trump can just ignore them!"

By that logic we should keep the government shut down for literally the next 3 years or however long it takes for Trump not to be President anymore. If that's what you want, fine (it's not fine), but say it out loud.

What I find funny about all this hemming and hawing over the Senate is that the only scenario that gets the government open without the House coming back means the government shuts down again two Fridays from now.

oh so these people do pay attention to who politicians follow on social media, they just don’t care that the vice president follows a bunch of actual neo-nazis

If it's true that RealClearPolitics removed their polling average of the VA Attorney General race because it was wrong, that should really be the nail in the coffin for them. It's GOP polling propaganda that hasn't been rigorous or transparent in a long time (www.gelliottmorris.com/p/the-pollin...)

*blowing up the statue of liberty to build a highway* erm I thought you libs were supposed to be YIMBYs
I can’t believe there are not one but two articles, in major papers, with this dumb framing. It is not NIMBY to express dismay when a big part of the White House is suddenly rubbled

Those who'd sneer at outrage over the White House fancy themselves slick. Ears to the ground. They don't concern themselves with frippery when there's a war to be won. Well they don't know a goddamn thing. Symbols are powerful, and politics is a game of using them to your advantage.

CHOTINER: So you're attending a No Kings protest today.

ME: That's right.

CHOTINER: But according to Steam, you've played over 450 hours of Crusader Kings 3.

ME: Okay, well- Now hold on. That's sort of unfair.

CHOTINER: Oh?

ME: Sometimes I play as a duke or a count.

CHOTINER: I see.

What do I know and I'm not saying it's a magic bullet or anything like that but it sure seems to me that Dems should run hard on the Argentina bailout. Not anywhere near the worst thing Trump has done, but i suspect it's unusually clarifying.
Jeffries: "It's perplexing to us that Rs refuse to spend a dime to protect the healthcare of the American people, but somehow the Trump admin found $40b to bail out a right-wing wannabe dictator in Argentina in ways that are also going to continue to hurt our soybean farmers in Iowa & the Midwest"

The only thing powerful enough to defeat Trump the first time was liberalism and guess what, we're gonna do it again, so you guys had best get used to it now.
These types were happy when Trump won last year because it allowed them to say "see, liberals didn't really win in 2020, they just delayed an even worse disaster!" So when liberalism defeats Trump *again*, these guys will feel twice as humiliated, and they're preemptively taking it out on all of us.

Hi Sally. When Weiss published a supposed expose on the death of George Floyd, a veteran criminal justice reporter showed in deep detail that the piece was not just wrong but filled with falsehoods and misrepresentations. Weiss did not retract the piece. What do you think of that?
This is really smart. Amazed at the hysteria over the ascendance of a woman entrepreneur who clearly knows how to cover and sell news and who's not afraid to take on a mob. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...
