And, necessarily connected to this, we should relentlessly advocate for the kinds of systems where teachers feel joy and inspiration in the material they bring to students bc there is no greater force for learning than a curious instructor excited about the topic they are teaching.

"a generation" is a best-case scenario and it depends on the political will to fund the academic side of institutions at a level we haven't seen in decades
Higher Ed had a lot of long-term problems before Covid, then Covid turned those into immediate problems, and then the Claudine Gay witch-hunt, then the Gaza stuff…the trump admin is just finishing off something that was already moribund. It’ll take a generation to start rebuilding academia.
