Wow - this guy must be really, REALLY bad with money if an extra £208 per month will “ruin” his retirement.

Let’s take a look at his situation based on what he told the @Telegraph

Because this does NOT add up!

No, this is not a “poor pensioner” scrabbling around for pennies…

If only we had some kind of person whose job it was to investigate the news and present a balanced set of challenging facts. We could call them something like “journalists”. The whole craft could be called a cool name like “journalism”.

An unexpected change of mind.
I was uneasy about the mansion tax prior to the budget. Having now seen newspapers full of people who bought their property for buttons moaning about it I now want a 50% confiscation of the value from anyone who moans about it.

It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.
Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

No longer have to be precise? The word "precise" obviously means something very different to me...
While some pretend that Israel's conduct can singularly be pinned on Netanyahu, an Israeli lawmaker just called for merciless bombing of Gaza.

"We have no hostages [left]... We no longer have to be precise. We can attack without mercy. Merciless! MERCILESS!"

Quite remarkable that we go along with something that implicitly says violence against boys and men is less of a problem, despite it being 2x the problem in its ultimate form.

Can't help thinking that if you open the door to one form of violence being less serious, that extending this view is easy.

Also who cares why they did it? What matters is it's done. (In any case reducing poverty is one reason people vote for Labour MPs so mollifying is kind of the point of elected them).
I'm hearing criticisms of the end to the two child limit, because it was done just to mollify Labour backbenchers, at a cost of £billions.

I remember another govt delivering a referendum on EU membership, just to mollify restive backbenchers. That's costing way, way more... A little perspective?

I know who Nus Ghani MP is - not because we always agree - but because she’s been serving her constituency (as well as lewks) since 2015.

Who the hell is Lucy White?!

Ah, a quick google search reveals her as a rentagob for GB ‘news.’

I know which one is qualified to chair the budget debate.

Only a man, sorry, but I'm really not sure that murdering men is intrinsically less bad than murdering women.

All such victims lose their lives and will leave grieving relatives and friends behind.
This is good

The sister of a murdered young woman had said: The murderer was not a monster, but the "healthy son" of a deeply patriarchal society

These words brought crowds out across Italy demanding change

Italian parliament unanimously votes to make femicide a crime
The gender-motivated murder of a woman will now be covered by a distinct clause in Italian law - punishable by a life sentence.
