Don't think I've ever managed to watch that, despite being aware of it for decades...

Given it is the anniversary of the Battle of Hatings today and also given that I don't have time to write anything new at the moment, here's my thread on kingship in the eleventh century for you to enjoy, yell at, or whatever. #medievalsky #skystorians #normans

For the anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, 1066, here is thread on why 'who was the rightful king?' is the wrong question to ask, why we don't know the complete story and why that makes things more interesting. 1/ #medievalsky #skystorians #historyedu #historyteachers

Book 48 of #adamreads2025 down - Warlords of Wyrdwood by @rjbarker.bsky.social !

A belting sequel, building and growing on what's come before like trees in the titular Wyrdwood, and escalating all the while! Loved this, and can't wait to see how it all ends!

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Still finishing up my book from last week, but am also starting "Black Water Sister" by Zen Cho (2021)
Book cover for "Black Water Sister" by Zen Cho (2021). Illustration shows a young Asian woman looking upwards. Behind her are lit red oval lanterns and a starry dark blue sky.

I loved the early chapters where the young wannabe sailor shares a bed with the tattooed "savage" harpooner...

Job occupations, from an 1881 census. Every one of these sounds like something a sorely provoked Captain Haddock would should at someone in times of heavy stress.

I'm sad today but I don't know if it's SAD sad or just the accumulation of past regrets and the anticipation of future ones...

We are over 60% funded, which is fantastic. Soon it will be time to talk about stretch goals. In the meantime, today's update features one of the most famous pieces of Welsh folklore, the story of the woman of Llyn Fan Fach: www.kickstarter.com/...
The cover of They Are Still Here (Mae Nhw Yma O Hyd).

The image is of the sorceror, Gwydion, surrounded by wild animals (wolf, boar, deer) in a Celtic knotwork frame. Gwydion's hat is crowned with antlers. He carries an axe in his right hand and an oak twig in his left.

Art by Josh Arklin.

You really gotta love progress.

When I was a kid, the shopping centre would play nothing but boring golden oldies on the sound system.

These days they play the best music, just straight bangers all the time.

Well, since it's a system that rewards scams, dishonesty, betrayal, theft, environmental destruction etc.

My friend Sascha is a professional musician and he's lost a viola bow on the way to Heathrow. Please signal boost to help him get it back.
Lost viola bow on the way from Honor Oak Station to Heathrow Terminal 2. The bow slid from its bow case somewhere along the way, possibly on the train. TFL contacted already.
It weighs 68.2 grams and has got a stamped DODD next to the frog. If any info on this, please pm me.

Julius Caesar conquered Gaul in 51 BC and died in 44 BC, therefore all of Asterix's adventures took place over the course of less than seven years, probably much less since Asterix's chieftain was at the battle of Alesia, were it is probable Asterix and Obelix's fathers died. In this essay, I will

Calling him "a career criminal with a rap sheet stretching back to 1980" is just such a distorted lie, typical of their justifications, that it's clear they don't care about justice or the law. How can people support this?

The RIAA was suing teenagers. We had to sit through ⬇️ this shit anytime we wanted to watch a DVD. A whole generation shamed for using Limewire and torrents. Only for these silicone valley assholes to now find copyright infringement a necessary evil they shouldn’t have to answer for

Should the New York Times be sold to Pennysaver and its editors sent to work in Amazon warehouses? It depends on who you ask.
