It's just nice to see that no, you are not alone, and no you are not fucking crazy this is insane evil shit going on and there is no going back to normal because it's evident that normal was a fucking major problem but we are here and there is still fight in us
Probably, but at the more conceptual level on which this annoys me I think that qualifies as begging the question.
Can anyone explain why unifying and digitizing the official #NYC City Map is subject to a public vote? (Proposal #5) Just do it, it’s obviously a good idea, what are you asking me for?

the new york sign museum remains one of the coolest places ever. I could spend 10 hours here
Protests in New York just need infinity more American flags. I include myself here, don’t have one I can just grab and carry. But it’s all of us for all of us and to me that is that flag.
Joining six figures of people in central Manhattan in daylight to make noise and be visible together in solidarity: this is a covert op.

Carcinization but it's Costco.

You may not like it, but this is what peak efficiency looks like:
Those are not pistachios, what game are they playing here?
Neil Young's run of output from 1989-1992 or thereabout is incredible, not a lot of pop musicians you can find putting out work that's so compelling 25-30 years after they got started.

Ken's post is honestly very offensive. I am not rich but I donated $10,000 to Andrew Cuomo's campaign because it's very important to me, as a New York resident, that our next mayor 1) live full-time in Westchester County, and 2) not have any friends. I think that's all good somehow. Do I not matter?
I support everyone giving vast sums of money to Andrew Cuomo. It’s the “lighting a million quid on fire” art piece but this time performed by the worst people in the world.

NEW: The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did.

We found more than 170 such incidents since the start of the second Trump administration. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes nearly 20 children, two of whom have cancer.

it is ALWAYS worth pointing out who gets to be just a helpless little innocent precious baby boy at the age of 34, vs. who is framed by the cops as a big scary dangerous man whose candy bar might be a gun when he's barely in middle school, or described as a "13-year-old woman" by her predator
last i checked these young republicans were like 25 years old. but this is a classic case of infantilization to diminish the significance of the offense. www.yahoo.com/news/article...

Honestly, it needs to go further than this.

We need to confront the fact that democracy and wealth hoarding cannot coexist. Allowing people to amass the resources of a small state/country allows them to act as such, which is inimical to a shared society of “one person, one vote.”
“No Kings” is great , but we really don't get a functioning democracy back until we internalize, bone deep, the instinctive response to this and every other statement like it: “I don’t care what that rich guy thinks.”

Make it your morning affirmation. Say it ten times at the top of every hour.

REPORTER: We know the president moved forward with mass layoffs. We're also learning there were significant cuts to staff at special education services. Are you comfortable with those cuts?

MIKE JOHNSON: I haven't seen the specifics of that and I don't know
Seems right. I meant it more as signal for the national strategy rather than this race in particular. If they push in against this specific outsider they’re valuing something other than just “can run the right kind of race to win”.
I think to the extent there’s a concern to have it’s that she likely gets at least implicit DSCC support during the primary. That’s signal, and would suggest an insider strategy that is likely a misread, given party unpopularity. If Schumer just stays out that’s more encouraging.

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.
Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?

This is it. I didn’t find it at all difficult to leave Twitter in the end: it stopped being fun and became boring and depressing. Whenever I opened it I’d see things that were obnoxious or upsetting. It was a relief not to do that.
This is an exact encapsulation of why I moved to Bluesky.

No amount of handwringing in the Atlantic about how I owe some eternal Promethean suffering to the discourse is going to make me stay on a site I hate, that stopped doing anything for me professionally years ago.
