"Sammy Salazar"

I had this whole spiel about Tommy adopting the surname of the former dictator of Portugal ready to go, but truth be told I think the doofus just likes alliteration.

It’s wild how these companies are shoving this shit into everything we do on our computers, and the general response from your average person has ranged from “this shit sucks” to “I’ll find alternatives that don’t use this ‘AI’ slop” to, in cases like mine, saying “fine I’ll just use my PC less.”
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

Insomnia Thought #919: “Game of the Year” should roll over to the next year and be treated like Heavyweight Boxing championships.

I don’t care about the 20XX Game of the Year; I wanna see “fourteen-time reigning, defending Game of the Year winner…”

The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption

Dimon on why JPMorgan Chase is not funding WH Ballroom:
We have an issue, which is anything we do, since we do a lot of contracts with governments here and around the world, we have to be very careful how anything is perceived, and also how the next DOJ is going to deal with it.

I've used Yarn Spinner while prototyping a few different ideas and, honestly... it's a pretty dope tool. Is it the most robust thing in the world? No! But if you need something as powerful as Articy: Draft, have whichever AAA studio you're working at pay for it.

For everyone else? Give this a look.

Absolutely co-signed. Glory’s arc in Dragonfall is one of my high water marks for NPCs/companions, but there’s a lot of good stuff on an arc by arc basis. (Samuel Beckenbauer is my favorite minor NPC that I can think of right now.)
If you're trying to get better at writing interactive dialogue, it's hard to beat the Shadowrun games by Harebrained Schemes as a reference point. Every dialogue has some element of conflict and tension, and some interesting choice about which way you push the relationship with the NPCs.

You know, considering it’s an open secret that Epic Games is hemorrhaging talent because people are working 80+ hour weeks until they hit exhaustion and take FMLA (or they ride out the perpetual crunch until they can go on sabbatical and just, y’know, not come back), I get why Tim is turgid for AI.

this is pretty solid spiritual advice tbh

“Be prudent, be wise, be careful that your use of AI does not limit your true human growth. Use it in such a way that if it disappeared tomorrow, you would still know how to think, how to create, how to act on your own, how to form authentic friendships.”
Pope Leo XIV told students not to use artificial intelligence for homework, saying that AI ‘won’t stand in authentic wonder before the beauty of God’s creation.’

It's easy to shit on Brian Cashman for how he's handled the Yankees in the 21st Century, but when you read about stuff like this it becomes pretty difficult to outright dislike the guy.

He's done this every November for the last 20 years, all to raise awareness (and money) to help homeless youths.
