Also seems like we're headed for a return to the supernatural themes of season 6 -- although, again, the show has surprised me before.

Interesting that this season's setting seems designed to evoke LOST, which has been a comparison point for the show since its beginnings.

This will be the final season. Probably a good thing. The tight focus and unexpected interconnections of the first few seasons have largely gone away, leaving a suspense anthology that just happens to be set in a slipstream world. We've had ample evidence of the downsides of this ambiguous utopia --

Like much of that this regime does, the murders of Venezuelan fishermen and boat passengers seem to be being conducted for the sake of making social media content that demonstrates Trump’s masculine dominance. So one way to describe them is as snuff films.

The promise of steady, honest, meaningful work, and now I'm falling apart. I keep thinking of the extraordinary long shot at the end of CAPTAIN PHILLIPS, where, after staying stoic and focused throughout his ordeal, the captain comes to pieces once the danger's passed and everything is quiet.

This is Chop. He was shot and killed by masked assailants in plain clothes who go by ICE. They showed up at his door "looking for migrants after receiving a tip." The son of the family asked if they could wait before entering the home while he put Chop away in the bathroom, as the dog can be aggressive with strangers.
According to the family, it is at this point that the son went to his pickup truck to retrieve his ID and a Border Patrol agent entered the home, opened the bathroom door, and shot Chop. None of the agents helped the family, who desperately tried to render aid to Chop, as he bled to death on the kitchen floor. Unsurprisingly, the agent who shot their dog then hid from them and refused to give his name. Even more unsurprising, they did not find any evidence of the migrants they were there to terrorize in the first place.
Do not open your door for these fucking losers. Rest easy Chop
