I definitely wonder how much of this comes from overexposure to the kind of drag that was repackaged for cishet consumption through the 2010s. I definitely had the wrong impression of what drag was for a long time, and it wasn't until I started actually attending shows that I was like "ohhhhhhhh"

nobody is saying that they shouldn't be made aware. but when there's a threat specifically to trans people, we're asking that cis people stand strong and say "this is a threat being made toward trans people, and that's unacceptable in and of itself."

because when the fash see our allies transpose "trans" with "lgbtq+" they read that as "the group is important to us, but not this specific component of the group. they're negotiable." which is why it's important to say "fuck no, hands of our TRANS friends" specifically

in the past few years, I have seen trans friends buried under headstones carved with the wrong name, children blown apart live on my phone in a faraway country, and brown people black bagged and disappeared by anonymous gestapo. the media mandated national grief over none of those things.
