My annual reminder to students that you want a letter of recommendation from someone that can speak to your work and your work ethic in detail. Get to know your professors before you need a letter, and ask the professors that have commented on your work. Office hours are ideal for this.

A freshly baked croissant presented on a black slate. The croissant has unrolled a little during baking and the pointed end now resembles a dorsal fin. There are croissant crumbs spread over the slate.

UPDATE: Following the firing of the director of the student newspaper, Indiana University has now cut the print edition of the newspaper entirely.

Indiana University cuts IDS print entirely, hours after firing student media director
By IDS staff
Oct 15, 2025 1:23 pm · Updated Oct 15, 2025 1:23 pm

IU previously directed the Indiana Daily Student to stop printing news coverage in our newspaper. Upon pushback, the university fully cut print, including our special editions. The IDS was not involved in the decision.

Media School Dean David Tolchinsky sent the order to IDS leadership in an email responding to its appeal that the school not censor the newspaper. And the dean attributed the decision to “the campus.” He has not yet responded to a message for clarification.

There were a few of those. The racist book cover in '08, and then, a few years later, stealing blog content from an activist WOC.

That's not even touching her throwing in with Hugo Schwyzer.

It's also the weird way that smug and callous condescension has become the main way liberals interact with anyone who disagrees with them. They learned it thinking they were the "good guys" fighting the evil and ignorant GOP.

But now they do it to their own voters and children, too.

People are VERY huffy and stompy about this post but just as an inside opinion from someone in LC community, It’s hard to believe there is solidarity with the disabled and high risk people who need to avoid covid when our one primary ask is met with accusations that, hey, maybe we’re just CRAZY?

Dear liberals,

If you identify as a leftist who believes in intersectional justice & fighting fascism, please wear a mask in public. It’s one small act of solidarity with the millions living with long Covid - and a reminder that caring for others includes protecting their health

Anyway, I've unfollowed Mr. Bouie, someone I used to respect, because his take on disabled people in these posts is more than offensive, it's harmful, particularly considering the size of his following and influence.

If you can’t take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

I’m telling you my lived experience with COVID/Long COVID.

Keep burying your head in the sand
Screenshot of the post removed by the author:

The marginal benefit of having all asymptomatic people mask indoors at all times, absent extremely high prevalence and no vaccine, is very small.

That's the demand that Jamelle Bouie there and myself here refer to.

It is not reasonable or in line with how we deal with other comparable risks.

Also when you post publicly about how everyone who still cares about Covid is weird, that doesn’t really make you someone easy to confide in.

the last thing americans need is to get any sicker. making daily choices in the interest of protecting yourself and your community members from preventable diseases is a logical and reasonable response to ever deteriorating circumstances.

Want it in a few words? The middle class. Want details? See below.

"The typical person with an ACA plan is an adult in their mid-40s with an income between 100 and 200 percent of the federal poverty line, or about $21,000 to $42,000 for a family of two."

Who will lose out when ACA health insurance subsidies expire?
Here’s a look at who could be affected by the end of the Affordable Care Act credits and how much prices could change.

If you don’t see the link between ICE and the IDF, you haven’t been paying attention. We are being asked to accept a world where whole communities are made disposable and marked for disappearance. If we accept that for anyone, no one is safe anywhere.

GLP-1 drugs such as Wegovy and Mounjaro can cause dramatic changes in GI motility and function, as well as dehydration and malnutrition. Will this change the way we treat poisoned patients on these meds?

Portland - @nickshirleyy captured the moment a huge shipment of far-left, Trantifa, Antifa encampment occupation supplies were unloaded near the ICE facility. They have so much riot gear and supplies that they're moving it into a nearby storage rental.

Fascinating new paper: higher levels of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater correlate with higher health-related absences from work.

"COVID-19 may have created a new year-round baseline for work absences that is similar to influenza season conditions before the pandemic," the authors write.
Enduring Outcomes of COVID-19 Work Absences on the US Labor Market
This cohort study examines the extent to which COVID-19 continues to generate work absences and decrease labor force participation beyond the pandemic period in the US.

I say this with peace and love, but if you are contacting disabled people to do sensitivity readings and disability culture consults WITHOUT PAY, please rethink making that request.

I always try to be as helpful as I can be, but I need to eat! 🫣
We deserve to be paid for our labour 💖

I want my taxes to support disabled people.
I want my taxes to support homeless people.
I want my taxes to support those living in poverty, children, and the elderly.
broadwaybabyto.bsky.social
Yes your taxes should support disabled people.

They should support homeless people.

They should support those living in poverty, children and the elderly.

This is literally the purpose of taxes, and I would far rather support those who need it than continue to enrich the elite.
