Like you go in thinking, "Yeah, the American military is awful, I'm not surprised" and like a third of the way through I was like, "No, every single person who has served in this kind of unit should be exiled and imprisoned."

This is a wild, harrowing book about the rot that lay deep within the American military's most lionized units. A great, fucked up work of journalism.

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:
ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.
Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

1)You may remember the articles criticizing liberal students for their hesitancy to make friends with conservative students—alleging that they were less open-minded than their conservative counterparts.

Remember when the American government assassinated a Rolling Stone journalist on American soil for reporting on the CIA and Delta Force and then investigated themselves and said they actually didn't do that?

One of the craziest stories I've seen in a long time. If you think Trump and his administration are extreme and depraved, just wait until you learn about the young guns who are positioning themselves to take over the reigns in the next few decades

‘I love Hitler’: Leaked messages expose Young Republicans’ racist chat

Though disgusting, none of this should be surprising.

Once more for the people who need to catch up on acceptance: Republicans are abusive racists. Their entire platform is White Supremacy for Capitalist Christian Colonizers. This is why most people don't like them and are entirely correct not to.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Ruba. Ruba is 23 and has been studying to be a pharmacist. She has been living in tents with her family since this all began and her home was destroyed, this includes her niece Tulin, 8 her nephew, Mohammed, 4 and her father who is ill.

I haven't seen this one, but I'm always looking for more great horror personally, so thank you!

Also last year, in case you didn't see any of these: HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS, PERFECT DAYS, CHALLENGERS.

Also, again, cartoony violence but I really loved SLAY, a horror comedy about drag queens trapped in a small town not-very-welcoming bar, fighting vampires.

I feel like when it came out I heard mostly negative-ish things, but I think it's found its audience and I'm hearing more and more that I should check it out, I'll really have to do that soon!

I didn't love THE MATERIALISTS like I did Celine Song's previous movie (PAST LIVES, very worth watching) but it's a solid romantic drama.

A NICE INDIAN BOY is a queer romcom that I've heard really good things about, it's high on my to-watch list.

Late last year, but SING SING was great.

Movie friends, any advice for Kira?

Tell me your best movies of the year (from any country)

I’m having a real hard time finding anything that’s not super violent, not super dark and depressing, not stressful, doesn’t feature scary things happening to kids, and also isn’t a kids movie lol. Do these movies exist anymore?
ikiruined.bsky.social
violence directed at its characters, but it is largely slapstick.

SUPERMAN is a family film, obviously, but I was really pleasantly surprised by how inspirational I found it.

One that may fit your criteria (I haven't seen it yet!) is THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND, which I've heard good things about.

It'll really depend on your sense of humor but I really enjoyed both THE NAKED GUN and ONE OF THEM DAYS as big goofy comedies.

BLACK BAG is an adult spy drama that I really liked, though it does have one moment of violence (and might be depressing).

DEAD TALENTS SOCIETY has some broad, cartoony

God DAMN, shout out to Kelly Thompson, Hayden Sherman, and Mattia de Iulis -- ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN Vol 1 was phenomenal. Lived up to the hype I'd heard and more.
