If you're trying to say was Biden is worse on trans rights than Gavin Newsom, again that would have been true until this year. Very few Democrats have done what Newsom has done in inviting far right maniacs onto podcasts and then agreeing with them that trans girls are really boys.

I agree with you about the problems with that and I think you are completely justified to be angry with a large number of Democrats for falling back, falling silent, wavering, or reneging on trans rights. I am too!

It does not prove that we should give up on Democrats or electoralism as a whole.

You'd still hear plenty of more oblique but still terrible stuff like "hispanic immigrants can't assimilate," which is how people not OK with open racism (1) sorted themselves out or (2) got ID'd as RINOs and shown the door once Trump's hold had solidified. And now it's just open racists left.

Yep. In my brief stint where I was involved in Republican political stuff in law school, I never saw anything like this. People don't go that mask off unless they know they're among the like-minded, and before Trump and into early Trump I, plenty of non-like-minded Rs were hanging around still.

Even just get started on the PhD and don't worry so much about what comes after. Just make sure it's at a school people have heard of. If she can say "Oh he's getting his PhD at [well known school]" she'll bring you to all the work parties and people will think you are interesting, not sad!

J.B. Pritzker or Andy Beshear or Tim Walz are still Democratic governors and aren't doing that crap.

Even Abigail Spanberger, as not great as she is on trans rights, is just repeating the Biden-Harris 2024 posture rather retreating even further!

It's super premature to give up on this fight.

Gavin Newsom *was* the same as Joe Biden, a go-with-the-party guy with no personal investment in the issue, just slight more to the left because he represents California.

Gavin Newsom has now proven himself to be a slimy opportunist and a moron. It doesn't mean every Democrat is the same.

Newsom is going to get crushed in the primary if he runs for president, he doesn't have it and we still matter

If you view the Democratic Party as a coalition of Euro-style parties in coalition you get a more accurate view: yes there are real transphobes and tons of cowards in the center and mainstream factions who deserve our rage. But we can still work to enlarge our faction and persuade them they need us.

The problem here is the fatalism leading to abandonment of the only realistic pathway. You are justifiably angry with Democrats that's not a reason to give up on winning over a party through coalition politics (for not only trans rights but possibly election reform to enable 3d parties).

ChatGPT recently cranked up its filtering to make it much much harder to jailbreak it into producing erotica and the backlash has been enormous.

I would not be surprised if Grok got its paying userbase almost entirely on the back of already allowing porn.

We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have been able to mitigate the serious mental health issues and have new tools, we are going to be able to safely relax the restrictions in most cases.

In a few weeks, we plan to put out a new version of ChatGPT that allows people to have a personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o (we hope it will be better!). If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, or use a ton of emoji, or act like a friend, ChatGPT should do it (but only if you want it, not because we are usage-maxxing).

In December, as we roll out age-gating more fully and as part of our “treat adult users like adults” principle, we will allow even more, like erotica for verified adults.

I mean clearly what happened is she is very frustrated with a certain type of anti-voting person that one encounters on the hellsite (and here). It's something I empathize with, but "avoid getting heated saying something dumb" is but one of many benefits to not follow the reflex to fight and argue.

Transsexualism feels bourgeois and a modern western phenomenon because *of course* when new medical technology arrives that improves a minority's life the majority has not recognized it as necessary, only the well-off will be able to access it at first. reading more into it is dumb as hell!
